See the Beatles were always a Christmas gift band in my house. White Album in '68, Abbey Road '69 and Let it Be and McCartney I got both in Dec 1970. Magical times. Especially winter of 1969, you could tell that this album had a major buzz in every mall, every store, and it was so exciting. I was only 8. 9, and 10 years old, but I could see and feel this buzz strongly.

I had the 45s earlier as they were issued but I had to wait for Christmas for the albums, they were so expensive.

So it only makes sense that this teaser sizzle reel would appear during Christmas week. It's a tradition.

  4. True, this was better than a trailer :D

When I see pictures of that guy, I can't believe Orson Welles denied Lindsay-Hogg was his son with a straight face.

Lindsay-Hogg looks so much like Welles!

    Regarding this "sneak peek":

It's cool to see the film edited in a more "natural" fashion, as it were... The original goes from these extreme close-ups on pore-revealing faces to weird angles with no perspective. With this montage, the viewer gets a better idea of of the environment in which the Beatles were working. You get a sense of the studio, the space, and the distance between everyone.

Do you think there was some filming after January? That shot of George with his beard coming in... I know he just probably skipped shaving for a few days in January, but it looks like he's actually growing his 1970 beard in one shot.

This is definitely more of a Doug question than a Ray question. :) There are apparently 4 different strains of cropping out in the world for the film, and I can't say with certainty which one is on Vimeo.

No, I don't believe there is any footage after 1/31/69. The "George skipped shaving" theory makes sense.

I know he came later, but it would have been cool to see a super young Alan Parsons.

Notice in the picture above, more evidence of fighting on the set. :)

Maybe Alan had several of these nice orange shirts ;) ?

Btw, how much of a fan is someone who can date a picture to a certain day just by seeing the clothes of Paul? I'm impressed :righton:!

Added later: 1/25/69 was a Saturday, 1/30/69 Thursday. If Sunday was laundry day it could be by chance that he chose on this big Thursday the same (but now fresh) shirt that he wore 5 days before  .

I got as far as "Maxwell" and noticed that the anvil has been replaced, and the out of time strikes by Mal have been muted. Tsk tsk...

I know this has been posted but what the heck. Its so fun it should ge on each page.

So thats how the percussive rhythmic sound was done on the song "Get Back". John was simply tapping on his white Casino. May be common knowledge, but I dont recall seeing footage before.

Anyway, 56 hrs of unseen that they are culling from? Surely this movie/doc. will be fun to watch when it comes out even if its a small portion.

What a wet dream to be able to sit and see all 56 hours. Im jealous of the hobbit man.

Its funny how George Martin almost looks younger than the Beatles do. Seemed like an old man and young boys just six years before. Such huge stresses, pressures and all of lifes abundance at the same time on the four of them. I cant imagine.

The visual clarity is pretty damn amazing also.

Edit: I can see what folks are talking about concerning the visual noise reduction or scrubbing making things appear to be a bit out of focus. Perhaps "clarity" isnt the choicest of words. However, it does seem vibrant and alive rather than the washed out grain of what I have seen before. Maybe not the best it could be done on the visual side, but Ill take it over what we did have.

Yeah. At the time of the Eight Day's a Week film, people commented about old they looked by the time of Let it Be and the influences of all the stress they'd been through in those seven short years.

Exactly. When I watched the original film I dont recall rewinding to watch Paul and George have words. I was wanting to watch them work and sit in the middle of the band as an observer of creativity. I hope this film shows more of that. And if more of that shows when they are laughing and having a good time, then thats what I am interested in.

Who is to say that much of the 56 hrs of footage isn't mainly the four of them actually enjoying each others company and just being The Beatles? Dont know of anyone here thats seen all 56 hrs.

The conflicts during the sessions were emphasized in the original movie because a movie needs some kind of tension and conflict, doesn't it? And then the resolution is the rooftop concert. Makes for a better movie but it probably doesn't reflect the reality of the sessions. On the other hand, two hours of the Beatles smiling and walking arm in arm wouldn't hold up to repeated viewings I would think.

Perhaps, they didn't want to 'look' like 'cheeky-chappys' in 1970.....
    All that 'fun' was drained out of the original in order for the public to know;
The Beatles were MEN now....not the fun-loving bunch of...what....5 years ago.....maybe...
