I saw it last night at the Prytania, the last single screen theater in New Orleans that has state of the art digital sound, and it was a gas. (One cool thing was for the admission price, you got a hard cover copy of Bruce Spizer's "The Beatles Are Coming!" and a long talk by him based on the book.) I particularly enjoyed the 5.1 mix, particularly for the music.

I guess that is the 5.1 mix done in the late 90's? I haven't seen anything that indicates it was totally re-done.

Does the current restored version have "Hey Bulldog" in it, or not? Would love to hear the 5.1 mix in a big theater on a nice system. I always felt like the Peter Cobbin remix of "Hey Bulldog" was really slamming, maybe even the best thing on that songtrack. That particular animation sequence isn't very essential to the film, but the tom tom drums and guitar/piano intro, I actually kind of want to hear that cranked UP on a nice theater system!

Hey Bulldog was in the theater version I saw last week.

The 1999/2012 VHS/DVD/Blu-ray releases have the "Hey Bulldog" sequence. The 2012/2018 theatrical release is the 2012 video restoration with the 1999 audio.

Only the 1987 VHS/Laserdisc will be without it.

Saw it last week with the wife. The transfer looked glorious on the big screen. The images dazzled the eye. The audio sounded amazing. I mean, "Nowhere Man"? I nearly melted in my seat. SPLHCB and "Hey Bulldog" rocked like never before (and of course, they already rocked).

If you get the chance, I say hop on it. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Just saw it in a nice old theater with about 40 people. Like when I first saw it on video, the story was just ok. But the picture quality was dazzling, on a nice big screen too. The film really comes to life in the song sequences and the surround sound was glorious. I'd never heard the Songtrack mix and it is stunning.

Yes I agree with you on Nowhere Man! I'd never heard such clarity in the vocals.

Someone tried to convince me it was more of a “burnt sienna”.

Saw it in the theatre this afternoon with my Mom, who introduced me to the Fabs. No matter how many times I see it, my feelings on the film don’t change. It just doesn’t do much for me and I love love love the Beatles. Is this 50th theatrical presentation due for a blu Ray release? I was most interested in the surround mix, but our theater played it at pretty low volume, and I couldn’t truly evaluate the mix.

The current theatrical release is sourced from the exact same restoration that was utilized for the current BluRay, issued in 2012 and which remains in print. Unless they were to come up with more elaborate packaging or additional extras (some episodes of "The Beatles" cartoon series?), there'd be no reason for a new BluRay release.

I thought the previous blu Ray was technically out of print. Available from many retailers, but oop.

I thought the the image of new theatrical release was remastered? That’s how it’s being advertised- restored frame by frame etc.

The 2012 DVD and Blu-ray is widely available.

It was remastered - for the 2012 release.

Yeah, it’s a bit misleading. It definitely was painstakingly restored ... but that was in 2012 for release on BluRay and also for a very limited theatrical release that coincided with the BluRay release.
