led to Revolution 9, and the keen interest of concert-goers for 20th century modern-classical music...
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix 2009 They are enviously cool, french, pop, guitar meets dance/disco.
The Architect - Une Plage Sur La Lune 2020 The Architect touches everything that travels through the styles: hip hop, jazz, electro, soul, funk etc ...
I’ve only just discovered Zaz and ended up buying 3 of her albums, the one above, “Paris” and “Recto Verso”. She is excellent. Has a Jacque Brel and Amy Macdonald vibe to her music.
I didn’t realise Air were a french band as it’s never indicated on their album sleeves. Next thing will be someone suggesting the RHCP hail from California!!!
I'm rather fond of the comeback albums of synth-pop band Indochine - But I'm really surprised that no-one has mentioned any Johnny Hallyday, who I understand is the biggest selling French artist within France.
The most celebrated among his albums is perhaps Rivière... ouvre ton lit (1969, actually left untitled originally). If someone were to mention Hallyday, there's a good chance it would be that album. But for me, I like his 80s output the best, such as Gang (1986). Here's a live rendition of its powerful opening track "L'Envie."
I bought that album mostly for The Small Faces contributions, but I think Hallyday himself disowned it within a couple of years.
Kate Ryan- Ella Elle L’a. Least the video had 2 metre free spacing. A wee bit too camp for shforum members methinks.
Best French Albums ? Hmm.. Serge Gainsbourg- Melody Nelson Charles Azanavour- Qui ? Francoise Hardy - If You Listen
He had some awesome musicians with him throughout his career, whether French, British, American or others. And he could keep up with them. I enjoy a lot of his music because he has a good voice and it's easy to understand for a non-native French speaker such as I am.
