They were the first two I thought of.

Another pair that didn't stick together long enough to bear much fruit (Stroll On, Happenings Ten Years Time Ago) were Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the Yardbirds.

The dual lead on Hotel California alone earns Felder / Walsh honorable mention.

Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton...they may have been mentioned before. Probably not 'the best' but up to and including The Promised Land they were damn good!

How about Joe Satriani and Steve Vai?
I think the only studio track they both played on was Alice Cooper's Feed My Frankenstein, but they've played together live quite a bit with the G3 tours.

OK most the good ones have been covered but..

I like the rhythm guitar of James Hetfield and lead of kirk....in the 80s at least.

Billy corgan and James iha sounded great back in the day live.

Best I saw live was Pat Travers when he had Pat Thrall in the band. What a gig.

They did play together for a short while. "Smokestack Lightning" features both of them. From what I understand, they played together onstage quite a lot. Not so much in the studio.

They're both great - and unique - players.

yeah, Country players had already been doing harmony/twin leads for years, but I think Bishop & Bloomfield with Paul Butterfield Band were the first guys to explore the possibilities in the rock/jazz genre. The stuff they were playing was just so far ahead of everyone else at time !

Listened to them yesterday, another great, under-appreciated combo!

I'd forgotten how great Steve Hunter's first solo album is...Monster licks all over the place.
Listen to this, then Lou Reed's live one with Hunter & Wagner's epic leads!

Just getting back from My Morning Jacket's OBH fest so I've got to add Jim James and Carl Broemel to the mix. These guys can cook and they've got an amazing synergy onstage

  21. Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton (and co.), P-Funk Allstars 1983. Not the best sound or video quality, but the performance transcends those limitations

  22. I think it's hard to call because many of those mentioned have very different approaches and the music requires a certain approach by the respective guitarists. An addition for me.
    Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew.

All of those mentioned so far are pretty terrific.

Lots of great ones mentioned here. My top two are Duane/Dickey and Andy Powell/Ted Turner.

A darkhorse vote for Skunk Baxter/Dennis Diaz. On the couple of albums that Steely Dan was actually a band they were pretty good, even with the guest stars.

It was awesome to hear Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes together in the ABB for 2001-2014.
