"All My Loving" gets the gold medal, with "Roll Over Beethoven" taking silver and "Money" walking off with the bronze.

My problem with All My Loving is that I heard this version first, so every time I hear Paul sing "All my loving" in the chorus, I expect to hear "nainonainona" next . I think a whole generation of spaniards have the same problem.

This week it's It Won't Be Long.

I suppose if I looked at form the perspective of favorite originals versus favorite covers, it'd be something like this:
Fave cover: 1. Money (preferably the mix from the Capitol 2nd Album) 2. Devil In Her Heart, 3. You Really Got a Hold On Me.
Fave original: 1. It Won't Be Long, 2. All I've Got To Do, 3. All My Loving.

Easy choice with the song they chose to debut on Ed Sullivan - All My Loving (anyone know the reason they chose that song over Twist and Shout or I Want To Hold Your Hand?). But it's also not a typical song. Of course it has the great moving bass line, but the really interesting part are the rhythm guitars - George plays in 4/4 as expected, but John is playing eighth note triplets over the same part which gives the song it's unique stamp. The chorus has a great progression including an augmented chord between a relative minor C# and major E. Plus George's solo is very tasty, playing over the chord changes.

Used to be It Won't Be Long, but now it's Not a Second Time. Must be those aeolian cadences in my head. :)

"It Won't Be Long" would have gotten my vote if it hadn't been on the same album with "Money"

"All I've Got To Do" one of the Beatles's "hidden" gems. One of Johns finest vocals!

Love the LP....voted It Won't Be Long.....but wish that after the success of Please Please Me that EMI would have/Martin would have pushed for the use of 4 track for recording. They had the equipment....

I love this song! The "best" song on the album is probably All My Loving, but NAST is my favorite.

I;m one of those weirdos who have now come to like the wide stereo. Maybe my new headphones are to blame. I wouldn;t like it for all their albums, though.

"It Won't Be Long" synthesizes the best elements of "She Loves You" and "Please Please Me" without sounding like a rehash of either. Easily my favorite song on the album, and a worthy inclusion on The Beatles Greatest.

It was a toss-up between "It Won't Be Long", "Not a Second Time" and "Money." Went with the first.

Read somewhere that "It Won't Be Long" was recorded with a view to being a single - but the band decided against it as they thought another single with the multiple Yeah's would not be a good idea

    Cool cover

Not the absolute first Mono UK pressings (-1N / -1N).

EMI re-cut it (and dramatically reduced the bass) after five days due to complaints about it jumping out of the grooves of cheap UK players.

But the first pressing Mono sounds darned good.

I've always surmised that the fact that so few have heard the good first pressing is why this album isn't rated very well (because the songs and performances are great, IMO).

I place the album among my Top Five (White Album #1... the others all essentially tied for #2 -- With the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Revolver and Abbey Road).

I'm not going say it's "the best song", but I think the song I've played the most through the decades is Roll Over Beethoven. Of course, the entire album is a classic, high energy slice of about the best you could get in rock 'n roll in 1963. I voted Roll Over Beethoven simply for the number of times I've played it, but frankly I could vote differently each time a poll on With The Beatles came up. I think the only one that simply would never get any consideration is Hold Me Tight. I don't hate it, but it has not at all aged well.

Is the bass correct on the 2009 Mono CD?
