Well, the Robinson brothers are. No idea who else is in the band, whether it’s the Shake Your Moneymaker tour musicians or not. Presumably they’re laying down the 20+ songs both brothers said they’d written together alongside George Drakoulias.
I always look forward to new music from the Crowes. I assume it's the same band they toured with last year. Glad to see they are going to do some new music, I think that helps solidify what they are doing beyond being an album tribute tour.
As it should be. Once this hits the streets, people can either like or dislike the music, but it legitimizes the current lineup and people can ease up on the bashing. Hopefully better mastering than ever. They are in a great studio, but I bet they use more than one. I for one am certainly looking forward to some new Crowes jams!
I'll always check out new Crowes music, but for me it's hard to top their run of SHAMC/Amorica/TSAOC. BYS and Lions had some decent tunes on them and I'll listen to those every now and then. Not a lot off Warpaint or BTF/UTF grabbed me. Hopefully Sven is at least involved, but I'd be super interested in whatever they're doing if MF and SG were part of it. But obviously, that won't be happening.
"Complain-y" is a good way to describe it, but it's easy for me to understand Chris and Rich's antics leaving a sour taste for some people. I wish things were different with TBC, but they are what they are, so bitching about it won't do me any good. I listen to the music they've put out that I enjoy and leave it at that.
I'm pretty sure this is the first time the band has been back in Sunset Sound since Tall/Amorica in 1993/4. I don't know where they taped the 2006-era demos and Back Door Santa though. EDIT: Yeah, the moment I'd posted that I remembered that Croweology may have been recorded there and it was.
Yeah, me too. Chris' solo stuff sounds great, but Rich's solo albums and Magpie Salute were quite loud, as was Warpaint, although the following year's Before The Frost... Until The Freeze didn't have that issue.
I'd be happy to hear something new. I don't think they've made a real classic record since Amorica but I enjoy several of the later ones well enough.
Slightly off topic. I would like to take a moment and ask Chris Robinson, if it ever could reach him. Please find a way to release this proper along with "Sweet Pickle Salad" and your other gigs with you and Marc.
So… there’s a photo on Chris’ dog’s Instagram account of the hound in the studio by the mixing desk. On that desk is a list with six things on it. The bottom one reads Papa Was A Rolling Stone. Could the top one be Rocks Off? Are they recording a covers album?
My head is spinning reading this thread. Not sure if it's confirmation that the brothers have new music and are actually recording it, or perhaps its that Chris' dog has an Instagram account.
I hope Isaiah Mitchell is on this recording. He's no Marc Ford, but honestly, besides Ford, Mitchell's the best lead guitarist The Corwes have had.
I’ve just seen another image (not sure where it came from) that shows Sven, Isaiah and Joel in the studio with Chris.
Great news. I recently did a major deep dive back into the Crowes after losing touch with them around By Your Side. Love what they were doing with Warpaint and Frost/Freeze. But nothing Chris or Rich have done apart (that I've heard) really floats my boat. They need each other for my ears to be happy.
