If we find out how well the recently released (12/18/18) double live Good Old Boys CD set (with Garcia performing!) is selling, that might give some indication what a re-release of the studio album will do. There's been little promotion of the live set. I think I found out on the forum, and generally very intuned to these things.
Well let's hope that putting out the set Garcia actually played on is a trial balloon for the reissue of the album.
Caught Greensky Bluegrass last night at the new Met in Philadelphia. A top-notch live act, truly. All things considered, I love the confidence to cover A Day in the Life as the second song of the night!
When will Tony Rice return? No news is not good news. So let's enjoy what he's done so far. How's this band for a bunch of talent on stage?
It was traditional in live bluegrass shows to insert some corny jokes. The Stanley Brothers, Reno & Smiley, The Kentucky Colonels and others all did it at one time or another. So let's not beat around the Bush and hear a more modern version of that:

I saw them the next nigh the Beacon, looks like you got the better show but they never disappoint. I have ticket to the ryman for this Thursday but I'm feeling less than motivated for the trip. Frankly, the show on nugs sounds better than the room did on Saturday night. The Beacon
I claim to be a bluegrass fan but in truth looking at the artists in my library I guess I would tend more towards "newgrass". The other thing is as much as I like it I only have 41 albums in my collection classified as such. Reggae is much the same as a genre for me. I claim to like it very much but it is very lightly represented in my collection. Maybe I need to do something about that.
If you don't already have this then it's a great place to start. There was a nice vinyl reissue for 2016 RSD,40th Ann..and of course the OG.
There is so much great bluegrass music being played and recorded today. For many it may challenge the convention of "what is bluegrass" but that in and of it's self is a tradition of the genera. I encourage everyone to seek out some of the current bands and artist. This might be the best time in history to be a fan of bluegrass music.
