I love banjo but I thought you guys might get a chuckle from this famous NYer banjo cartoon. Here’s a link to it: banjo.on.the.elevator.cartoon - Google Search :
Is it hot, though? That kind of status is generally reserved to talk about household tools and timepieces.
And lots of grinnin' going on. And attention paid to fine Grass. Dig in, enjoy, and worry about all else later. We feel better when the music is nice. Enjoy the music. It makes us physically and emotionally better. Just do it, thank me later. Rinse, Repeat.
So Skaggs and KC played a bluegrass masterclass, and even Road To Spencer which I play badly in my band. Met him afterwards, chatted about his inspiration on my mandolin playing and stuff and then couldn't sleep as I was buzzing too much from the whole evening. Also, found the second Boone Creek album on cd earlier in the day. Should have got him to sign it, now I think about it, as it was in the car just outside the venue. Really nice guy. Got a photo with him. I look unhealthily pale, greasy-haired and old - but he looks like a timeless wizard (of the mando).
I saw The Tillers last summer in my college town. I hadn't been to a bluegrass show in years (I was a fiddle player for about 15 years before I started college.) I loved their style which was almost hippie-ish, and their music was very nice to listen to. Their Self Titled album is great!
Anyone headed to Telluride this year? I’m finally making my first TBGF and I am pretty excited I lived in Colorado for 15 years and went to Telluride a few times (even saw widespread panic there in 03 and phish in 2010) but somehow never made it to the festival. Had to move 1/3rd of the way across the country first
Unfortunately that particular band no longer exists That’s a good disc though. They were a force back in the early aughts
Today is Sam bush’s birthday. That is billy strings, Sam is wearing a greatful dead T-shirt, that is all I know.
I spent a good bit of today listening to two shows from the last tour. They don’t face melt like they did in the old days but there is still a lot to like about what they are doing. I’d say they put on a better show than the Jeff Austin band but they were all better together.
Love this pic too! I met Sam up in the Adirondack mountains back in the summer of 2007. He put his arm around me and it felt like I knew him all my life. He slays on fiddle too!
He wrote most of their best songs, losing those tunes hurt a lot. I’m sure Jacob is a better technical mandolin player but Jeff was the heart of that band to me. I have a lot of half-informed opinions about what went down which I will keep to myself Haven’t seen Jeff’s band in a long while. One of his early lineups had Danny Barnes on banjo, that was a fun band.
As amazing as he is as a musician, the best thing about Sam Bush is that he’s a die hard Cardinals fan!
