What will be included on this potentially huge set?

    The Les Crane TV show
    Manchester May 7
    BBC Special June 1
Forest Hills August 28 (a poor audience recording is in circulation, but a line recording probably exists)
    Hollywood Bowl September 3
Carnegie Hall October 1 (not in circulation, but a recording exists)
Berkeley December 4 (not great sound, but the audience recording of the electric set is very listenable)

    What else?

I think the circulating audience recordings you mention are virtually guaranteed. The biggest question is if Sony includes the professional recordings they reportedly have in their archives. On the one side, it preserves the possibility of someday releasing them commercially. On the other hand, it means they'd immediately get disseminated to fans who seek them out.

There's no need for Sony to include the studio archival recordings this time. They are all coming out on the mammoth 18CD set that covers ALL studio outtakes for 1965 and 1966...thus keeping this material out of PD hands for another 70 years. Ron

Has the full Newport 1965 recording been released officially?

The Newport workshop tracks could be interesting - an acoustic 'Tombstone Blues ' was performed, a fragment of which was recorded by German TV.

What's interesting about that is that Murray Learner told me he doesn't have a recording of that performance, and Jeff Rosen told me he was unaware of it until I showed it to him.

I know from the electric set, 'Maggie's Farm' was on the No Direction Home 2CD set, and I'm sure 'LARS' has been aired on TV documentary whose name I forget, and is in 'Festival' and/or 'Other Side of the Mirror' (and is it in 'No Direction Home'? I haven't watched that in years)
I'm so familiar with the footage, but I can't recall where from. But does video soundtrack count as copyright protection, in terms of the audio? If so, it may not need to be on the Copyright Extension 1965 set.

Almost all of the Newport Set was released on the Other Side of The Mirror DVD. But oddly, it was missing "It Takes A lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry" (aka "Phantom Engineer"). Not clear on the reason, but @Mbd77 offers some interesting information that ties in.

Do you think the Tombstone Blues footage was actually recorded by WDR (the German station that broadcasted the footage later that summer) or was it Lerner footage that they obtained?

Yes. They've gotten a little earlier each year. Last year, I picked up the 1964 collection on 5 December.

Didn't the Cutting Edge thread mention that some news might be coming a week from this Monday?

Speculation is that it has something to do with the 1965 Copyright set.

Those are probably my top choices. I'm still waiting to see if Steve Forbert was right about the Forest Hills reel(s)...and as always, I live in hope that a complete tape of one of the '65 Chicago dates will magically materialize, and provide us with another version of Long Distance Operator.

    MP3 = gutted.

Downloading now. First track that came in is labelled as "Live at the Royal Albert Hall, Manchester, England." Doesn't bode well.
