    Hi Paul,

It was some years ago that I compared the DATA and Japan for Australia cd's and my impression was that the Japan for Oz cd sounded better...so I ditched the DATA pressing!
They obviously have the same PL's so...maybe this is another of those cases where two discs share the same master but ?sound different despite this fact!?
Anyway, I am glad you are happy with it.

    Regards,

    David

This is a different scenario than the AC/DCcatalogue where the Japan for Australia sound much different compared to the Aussie Blackface discs and they do have different EAC numbers.

    Interesting.

    Barry,

Don't pay too much for it...they (the DATA) pressings go as little as $5 and not more than $10 here in Australia!

    Regards,

    David

    Thanks David,
The cheapest I have seen so far is $15 for Heydey. You have the advantage geographically.

What others were available in that series besides Heydey?

I just found a West German Carrere CD (Remote Luxury). I will be interested to see how it compares to my Arista when it arrives next week.

    David,

Again, thanks for posting the peak values! As I said, I'm happy with the sound of the disc I own, but honestly, after reading comments about the Japan version I started checking eBay to see if was available. I'm just happy that I have the same mastering. You saved me a lot a of possible money spent. Thanks again!

    Thanks,
    Paul

I think I only spent $13 for mine on eBay, so you should be able to find them cheaply.

Yes you are right about the geographical disadvantage for you regarding purchasing this cd...I guess it could have sounded like I was a little insensitive to that fact when I was advising on what is a good price to pay!

I only know of 'The Blurred Crusade' however there may also be one for 'Of Skins And Heart' as well.
Was that (Remote Luxury) the one that was on Ebay...it will be interesting to compare it to the Arista version?

    Regards,

    David

My Of Skins and Hearts is also a DATA pressing and I like the mastering on it. I think I have a 1996 reissue. The sound on it seems tonally correct with some hiss and I don't think it's mastered too loudly.

I still need to pick up that Blurred Crusade cd you recommended.

True. But as is often the case...these pressings are not highly sought after here...Australian's want the Arista's or the new remasters as a general rule and thes languish in sale bins for little more than a few dollars!

Please post your thoughts on it. This disc seems pretty hard to find.

    It is my pleasure, Paul.
As has often been said before on this Forum, this is but one of the benefits of a place (forum) like this for sharing information. I have certainly been the benefactor of such information/wisdom from Forum members myself in the past...and saved some money in the process. On the flip-side...I've also spent some money as a result of advice given. Guess that's what this hobby (read: obsession) is all about!?

It may well have the same mastering as the Disctronics version that I have...do you want me to post the EAC/Peak Levels for you to compare the two?

Whoops. I thought you were referring to Of Skins and Hearts. I've ordered The Blurred Crusade and can post it once I get it. I'm not 100% sure which version it is though since I haven't received it yet.

I do have the DATA version of Of Skins and Hearts which is what I thought you were referring to. Here are the peak readings for that one:

    Track 01
    Peak : 0.865784
    Track 02
    Peak : 0.734802
    Track 03
    Peak : 0.868500
    Track 04
    Peak : 0.883484
    Track 05
    Peak : 0.784637
    Track 06
    Peak : 0.687897
    Track 07
    Peak : 0.695465
    Track 08
    Peak : 0.765533
    Track 09
    Peak : 0.642609

BTW the catalog number on it is 8297652

Nope, it was on Musicstack, same WG catalogue number but it may not be the red face disc. It should be the same mastering since it is WG.

I was kidding about the geographical advantages
