That's always been my favorite of the many Universal logos. I especially like the fanfare. I wish they'd bring it back!

The Sting and The Hindenburg also use the art deco "ball" logo.

I always laugh at the 1930s end titles: "A Good Cast Is Worth Repeating".

Xanadu was horrible. When we were working on it, many of us called it "Xana-Don't," because it was even bad in dailies and as a rough cut. I have to say, I've listened to the soundtrack album many times, and it's very entertaining (and I think went double platinum), so they made money on that. Everybody I had contact with (the editors and assistants and the mixers) knew the movie was doomed, but hey... we got paid.

You wanna see a worse movie, try to watch Roller Boogie... the other roller-disco movie that came out around the same time. Good god, y'all.

    Watched Xanadu (1980).

    The good:

    6 or 7 good songs.

    Animation sequence was really good.

    Gene Kelly

Olivia is not a great actress, but she certainly had star quality. She doesn't "sink" it.

    The bad:

    Flimsy story.
    No real script.
Secondary characters have nothing to do.
    Michael Beck, huh?

As is, the production really runs out of steam at about the 60 min mark.

I love this entire thread. The 1st horror movie I ever saw was Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman, nearly 50 years ago & I've been a fan of Uni Horror ever since. I have 51 of their horror films in my collection, & that logo is still my favorite not only of Universal, but of all the studios. I really loved how with the horror films, you had this big, crashing fanfare with the logo, followed by the creepy opening theme of whichever movie you were seeing. An interesting juxtaposition, to say the least!

I may need to watch some Uni Horror tonight in fact!
