I think you'd be shocked by just how much of history is indistinguishable from a trashy soap opera.

For those who enjoy this series I would recommend the movie ' Royal Night Out ' , a good but light-hearted film about young Elizabeth out on the town on VE day. An enjoyable watch.

Claire's gone. Olivia Colman is now Elizabeth. Excellent actress and thought she did a very good job stepping in for Foy, who I loved.

I'm sure there's a joke that I'm missing, but I'm not getting your point.

No joke at all. Clare Foy was excellent, as Olivia Coleman will be, too.

Right but she's gone, so the shoes to fill are Colman's not Foy's.

Well the way you're using the phrase is a bit odd. You make it sound like Foy is trying to fill shoes, but what your saying is Foy's shoes need to be filled. I get it now. Let's move on.

What size are Claire Foy's shoes?

This is a fairly high budget production, and I'm sure they bought shoes for each actress and don't need to pass them down.

I'm really enjoying Season 3, although I'm restraining myself to one episode per day.

Each episode gets better and better. Episode 3 about a mining disaster is Emmy winning territory for Olivia.

I'm going to forever think that Claire Foy has unnaturally large feet now.

The performances are great, but the whole thing has the air of a tragi-sitcom.

I've watched the show up to almost the end of season 2, and I find it entertaining, if a bit "by the numbers." There are a lot of good performances, but it all feels "acted," stagey. Very period drama, whereas they could have broken the convention and utilised modern storytelling techniques. There's also a lot of overt exposition, captions and news broadcasts included. And when things are only hinted at, such as with the royal couple's intimate life, it's frequently and painfully awkward. I don't find John Lithgow a good choice for Churchill (it all feels so put on, the accent too), or Matt Smith for Prince Philip (whoever this person is, he or his struggles don't feel very interesting), but that's who you are stuck with for a lot of the time. And even then, there are so many characters that the few who deserve the time and attention, struggle to get it. The one whose story ends up being told best is Princess Margaret's, and to me, Vanessa Kirby overshadows her screen sister.

That said, like I said, it's entertaining, and I keep watching.

I've read a lot of criticism for the casting in series 3, but I'm quite liking Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip - probably more so than Matt Smith in the earlier series. I thought also Helena Bonham Carter (so distinctive and well known) wouldn't hold a candle to Vanessa Kirby, but she's not so bad.

The show. The performances in the actual U.K. aren’t what they were ;).

Fwiw I liked Matt Smith. I thought he captured the sense of imprisonment and mild sadism. But Tobias Menzies is also excellent.

I like how they dealt with the change of lead actors with the stamp portraits. Much better than than having to age up the younger actors.

I loved the original cast and thought I might not like this new season - but wow, the acting is terrific! Agree about Menzies and Carter. But I have to hand it to Colman - superb. I still have a crush on Foy, tho. (I hope it's no spoiler to say I was happy to see Pip Torrens turn up again!)
