unfortunately; easy to see nearly everything mastered this century is in the RED.
Also one of my favorite titles, especially being a compilation, from way back when ceedee was still fairly new to me [1990] & very exciting. The ancient Elektra CD is still a respectful DRD rated #13.

    Back on Track:

Would like to see the new ceedee (set) at a DRD rating of #14 or higher.

Would really like to see a single disc Blu-ray Audio 24/96 lossless re-mix/re-master at #15+...
    that ain't gonna happen tho!

Wish they would've added the Extended Version for Primary instead of the Red Mix + the Extended In Between Days which is my preferred version of the song and sounded pretty poor on the Retro Active CD.
But nice to see that the long Just One Kiss finally makes its (official) debut on CD.

'Sounds' like you like "Extended Mixes" too!!
    Is this the 'missing' mix:

    Spooky good!

"Re-Mixes", much to often IMO, ruin the melody/rhythm of the original track. "Extended Mixes" can extend the best parts of a song or add instrumentation that matches the original 'feel' IMO.

U2 had quite a few "Re-Mixes" i liked; just changing the beat completely in a "Re-Mix" rarely works for me.

    End of RANT...

I’m still living with the hope that The Walk EP will ever see the light of day on cd. Hey, I’m allowed to dream and yes, I made a needledrop!

Would love to get ahold of disc two in old-fashioned mastering (plus some of the other missing 12" mixes like Primary!), but it is all but guaranteed that this CD will sound worse than whatever lossy needledrops you can find on YouTube.

I prefer Wish to the massively overrated Disintegration. Neither are a patch on Pornography, Faith, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me or Seventeen Seconds though. I'm not too fussed about Mixed Up, Chinese Whispers or Head On The Door but find myself strangely and very belatedly getting into 4:13 Dream.

    Yes,that's the mix.

And yes,i like extended versions and also remixes as long as they do not stray too far away from the original. There were lots of excellent extended versions and also (extended) remixes in the 80s. Unfortunately that all changed in the 90s and the songs were way too often "re-worked" to a point that completely ruined every melody or rhythm.

Yes,the Retro Active is pretty unpleasant. The US promo 12" vinyl sounds so much better. The best needle drop on CD i've heard so far was on this unofficial compilation.

It's a cool EP, but those tracks are available elsewhere, just get the Japanese Whispers comp. it's easy to find.

By the way, I tried to find the earlier thread about 'mixed up', but it was closed.

Most of the people in that thread, thought the mixes weren't that great, and that it wasn't a very good release.

Here, however, i think more people like them, and are looking forward to this releases.

I was really disppointed with the new 90's remixes offered with Mixed Up, so that makes a nice Lp but not a great one.

The 80's extended mixes are so good because they are true to the originals, don't ruin the melody, the rhythm as others have already said here.

I would have been interested in other groups remixing The Cure as Mogwai... A pity. I would also love to listen to people like Jim O'rouke remixing Cure tracks.

I think the appreciation of these mixes came with time. When the album was released I clearly remember that among friends especially "A Forest" was dismissed almost in general. Too electronic or technical, dark ambience gone etc. We thought they had sold themselves to the current Zeitgeist a bit. But to me I liked it more and more with the years, it stands beside the album version now. Lullaby is the definitive version and the clearer mix of Fascination Street trumps the album version also. The last tracks never did so much for me though and were seldom played.

Mixed Up was my first Cure album -- and I fully realize how invalid this fact may make my opinion.

I recieved "Mixed Up" as a Selection Of The Month from Columbia House back in '90. As a budding DJ, 12'' mixes were my thing. I hadn't heard much from the cure up to this point, and figured a collection of their remixes might be a cool way to get introduced to a group that I'd been curious about for some time. So, these are the versions of these songs I heard first. I quickly bought up their catalog after immediately loving the tracks on Mixed Up.

    Lullaby
This one ruined me for the LP version. There is no comparison, this mix is the definitive. Such textures. Such an odd, "club" beat, but you can't really dance to it. I love it.

    Closer Mix
I heard this version first, and liked it, but this track comes in so many different flavors - simple math allows this mix to be at half the tempo of the ultra minimalist LP version, but the original 12'' version is my favorite. This is, however, probably the best of the new mixes.

    Fascination Street
I don't know anyone who doesn't agree that this is the definitive version of this one.

    The Walk (Everything Mix)
It's fine, but the original is superior by far.

    Lovesong
There's nothing wrong with the LP version, but I always liked how the extended mix gives the song breathing room. And the trickery with the bassline before the final chorus is nice.

    A Forest (Tree Mix)
As I say, this is the first version of this song that I heard. I loved it, but then I picked up the original version, and how could you not fall for that? I still like this mix, but it didn't beat the original. a couple of years later, I went to see the Cure at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and A Forest became this 15 minute epic. And I ate it up. What does everyone think of the new version from Join The Dots? It's interesting that Robert seemed to do a new version of this song about once every ten years. I really like the Join The Dots version.

    Pictures Of You (Strange Mix)
Words can't describe what a shock it was, hearing the Disintegration version of this one, after first hearing this Dub Mix. I dare say it's my favorite version still, although the LP (and also the extended video mix, included on disc 2) are beautiful.

    Hot Hot Hot
I could take or leave this one at first, but it grew on me. The Cure doesn't really do funk very well. The extended mix neither improves on nor detracts from what this song is trying to do.

    The Caterpillar (Flicker Mix)
28 years later and I'm still not sure what is supposed to be happening here.

    Inbetween Days (Shiver Mix)
Just odd. Robert's voice is slowed down, and it tripped me out when I first heard the LP version. This sort of a mix is done better with the "Milk Mix" of Let's Go To Bed.

    Never Enough (Big Mix)
Any version of this song is fine, I guess.

One that I'm really glad to see wasn't overlooked for this set is the extended "A Japanese Dream". I was disappointed that the 7'' mix was included on JTD instead of this. It sounds Great on my U.S. 12'' copy.

My interest in the new mixes has grown in the last few days. I'm just so ... I hate to use the word curious cuz it sounds like a pun, but ... what is he going to do with these songs? These aren't extended versions, and they aren't the re-interpretations by other bands that he talked about a few years ago - which I never thought was a good idea anyway. Oh ****, will they have New Vocals? I don't want that.

I just heard the new mix of "Want" on BBC6. I like "Want". While in the same vein as the (superior) "Open", it works as a big album opener. It's one of the only songs I actually liked on WMS.

This new mix. Nope. Original '92 vocals, but shifted ahead like half a measure, so they fall in a different place than the original. I'm all for a radical new arrangement of something, but this was difficult to listen all the way to the end.

BBC Radio 6 Music - Shaun Keaveny, #MASO and #MFIFriday skip to about 45 mins in.

But I agree with you on Lullabye and Fascination Street : both are original vintage mixes (though only coming too years earlier) contrary to the 90´s mixes that I don't think are that good. A Forest is just ok imho.

Thanks for sharing. I much prefer the original though. Pretty weird remix.

Looks like we finally get some real new stuff.

I was double checking the mixes, it looks like the limited edition remix single version of 'close to me (closest mix)'

"Closest Mix" is simply an edit of the "Closer Mix".
