I wouldn't call Casino a piece of crap but I can see why some might not have taken to it.
That is the issue with EON. The director has no control over the movie they are just there to essentially to oversee the production more or less.

The biggest issue with Brosnan as Bond was they made his films very generic. They felt the need to compete with the contemporary action films of the time and it didn't do them well. Despite the issues with the films, I think he generally does a good job in them especially TWINE where I think he gave his best performance as Bond in what was a fairly mediocre film.

Brosnan’s post Bond film career ( mostly) excellent. Never taken him as James Bond.

He was in an interesting Bond type tv advert as he confronted all sorts of ambushes as he drove up a snow capped mountain of danger to meet a beautiful woman.
N.b. I have no recollection of the product being advertised?

While I never cared for Roger Moore as Bond I have always viewed his debut in "Live And Let Die" as the quintessential James Bond film, with Connery's debut the overlooked "Dr.No" as a very close #2...

With David Niven in "Casino Royale" at #3 for sheer groovy hipness, something the other Bond films lacked

He looked better when he left ( sacked ) playing James Bond. Think him and Sean Connery have got the best film resume.

Daniel Craig as Bond does not fit the personality and ethos of what Fleming created. Craig makes good action movies but they are not Bond in the traditional sense.

the supplements on the Bond blu-rays are wonderful.

have you heard the banned commentaries from the old Criterion
laser-discs? on the first three titles only.

Amen!!! Of all the decisions and efforts that Broccoli and Saltzman made.. not utilizing(or facilitating) Peter Hunt to make more Bond films is a big one! To think that John Glen did SIX and Hunt just one is mind blowing!

I didn't have a problem with Brosnan as Bond. I would have, if they had cast him as Bond back when Eon first approached him for the role, but he could not get out of his obligation from the Remington Steele TV series, when the series was renewed.

I saw there being a couple of issues, being too young for the role and more importantly, looking too young for the role.

To come off his young goofy TV character where he was not a macho male character and right into the Bond role, I just did not feel was workable.

Once Brosnan distanced himself from his TV role and picked up a few years of aging, he was better suited to play the Bond role.

I really did not think that Timothy Dalton was bad as James Bond, but I think that his Bond character was compromised by infusing the Bond character with this newfound, less misogynistic approach to Bond.

If I was around in 1967, It would have been awesome to go to the Savoy Cinema in Dublin on opening night and witness the opening theme tune fill the theatre. But I wasn't and can just try and imagine what it was like.

Welsh actor ? Diana Rigg rated him.

Back in the day, there were no home theaters of course. Home stereo's were mostly just OK, but not up to a good commercial sound system. As a kid, you could not visit nightclubs, so for dynamic, exciting movies, there was the cinema.

While Star Wars would not be Star Wars with John Williams theme music, before that, there was John Barry and the James Bond and 007 themes.

Going to a theater and hearing the gun barrel opening sequence followed by Maurice Binder's opening credits, with exciting visuals and a dynamic main title song, as a ten year old, would put you on the edge of your seat before the movie even began.

    Goldfinger Opening Title Sequence

Back then as in earlier cinema days, the best sound systems that most people would experience was in a theater.

So, I not only had a collection of movie soundtracks, but I had real Altec Lansing theater speakers since the age of sixteen.

These are the real deal and they are powered by tube amplifiers, just like they used to be in theaters.

    Lovely room.
I like the theatrical Exit light over the door.

All that you say is true, on every point. To hear great sound in the sixties you
either went to a concert or to the movies. The James Bond logo and theme
were famous and something everyone looked forward to; it really did make
an audience sit up and take notice.

You're listening to a tube stereo system or just the tube speakers? How does
digital media sound coming out of analog speakers?

The last bonus stuff i remember seeing must have been for 40th anniversary or something. They interviewed the women of thunderball etc . They still looked good . OHMSS showing camera stuff of the alps etc. Im guessing it was the 40th.

When I had the Special Edition DVDs in the early 00s I used to watch the bonus stuff way more than the films. A lot of that stuff was ported over to the eventual 2-Disc Ultimate Edition DVD sets in 2006 as well as way more stuff as they put all the bonus stuff on a separate disc. The Blu-Rays are basically just the Ultimate Editions on 1 Disc and in HD though sadly a lot of the bonus stuff wasn't cleaned up for HD so it's just really poor looking DVD quality video it can be quite jarring.
