Dr. Pedantic writes: The lousy sound design and my lousy ears meant I couldn't hear most of the dialogue in the bedroom scene, but if as I thought this is supposed to be 1971/2 and the chick with the hair is supposed to be a college freshman, I call bs on her ever having seen the Velvet Underground, let alone feeling familiar enough to call them "the Velvets". Just saying.

  2. I don't know. Maybe my center speaker is set higher than most of you pr something. I hear the dialogue perfectly and can understand pretty much everything.

    Use CC.

She easily could've seen the Velvets as a high school junior/senior. I was going to clubs in Boston in the early/mid 70's when I was in my mid teens. Believe me when I tell you that there plenty of teens at Max's back in the day.

Wasn’t bothered by that at all in Treme but I didn’t make it all the way through to the end. The first 2 episodes of Deuce were well paced for me whereas the third fell in to later Downton Abbey territory which made Downton suffer with relentless scene changing to keep it moving unnecessarily. Looking forward to episode 4 tonight.

she also talked about 'lous sensitive side' while pale blue eyes was playing so shes pretty familiar with the group (well, someone ws buying the albums at the time), . they also have a lot of "this is 1971" shots like passing the guy reading The Godfather...but then again, if in 40 years if they made a film about 2017, you'd pass people would be talking /tweeting about Trump, etc so I guess it makes sense

Everybody read The Godfather back then. My brother read it around that time when he was 12. I waited until after I saw the movie.

I don't have a problem with the sound either, my centre speaker is below the TV. It might be an issue if I wasn't listening in 5.1, I guess; given all the extraneous noise.

I'm listening through the two crappy speakers on my circa 2009 Panasonic Plasma TV...and I hear all dialogue perfectly.

The wife and I just did a binge watch of the first four eps, and that was my thought exactly -- prostitution, pimps, porn, mafia, cop culture, and some drug distribution have been covered, but no heroin/addiction subplots at this point... i would have guessed that would have been a shoe-in at this point.

That said, we are totally hooked on the show. We think the acting is great, and the only subpar, TV-cliche, "groan" character is the "Frankie-Franco" twin bro, whose main existence is just to throw monkeywrenches in the more-intelligent twin's business plans and schemes.

Really? That sucks. I may bail then. The '70s NYC thing is what got me interested in the first place.

I can't find any mention of this online, and I don't see how it can be true. Would leave too much hanging at the end of this season.

oops actually its 77-79 for season 2, then mid 80's for season 3, so we'll have at least one more season of the 70's.

Where is this info from? First off, they're actually signed by HBO for two more seasons? And if they move to L.A., how can they continue to call it "The Deuce"?

I would have thought it was part and parcel of a pimp keeping those in their employ from straying off.

Anyone else think Ashley's dress is gonna lead to Abby being confronted by C.C.?

theyre signed for one more but this is their 3 season plan (simon only wants to do 3 seasons) james franco has talked about it in interviews, im guessing they'll split season two with the burgeoning porn scene in LA and the changes in NY , theres a podcast called The Watch where they talk about it in more detail.

Very good episode last night. While I was watching (before the end) was thinking how much I'd love to see some good Samaritan step in and take one of the pimps down, but as David Simon shows aren't really about justice, I wasn't expecting to actually see it happen.

As an aside, my Junior High and High School buddy, Steve Kirschoff, is the special effects guy. In social studies we used to look at the burlesque ads in the back of the NY Post for entertainment - Busty Rusty and Candy something comes to mind as well as a bunch of others that are long forgotten from the 1960s.

Love the show and I can't believe how well they got the look of NYC back in the 1970s but 42nd really went down hill in the 80s. For a short time I worked not too far away on 40th and 7th. I met Annie Sprinkle years later as well as a bunch of other 'stars' in clubs.

Maybe. Or he'll cut her again someplace that won't lower her market value. Then again, he did that just for her not wanting to stand in the rain. So who knows what he might do for her actually running out. He's the pimp I hope catches a bullet, like the guy in the diner.
