OK, just read through this thread and was somewhat surprised to read numerous comments about what a great songwriter and musician she is, in addition to a singer. I have to confess I haven't ever given her catalog any attention, and these comments will spur me to get something from her to hear it for myself. I guess the Essential 3.0 would be a good purchase? I certainly don't wish to derail the thread, but I noticed an earlier comment a page or two back about her "unfortunate taste in plastic surgery", or something to that effect. I've heard family members and others in the past refer to her having had plastic surgery, and I always assumed they were real, for the simple fact that she is a singer, and not a stripper! Why on earth would someone who isn't going to take their clothes off for a living ever elect to get a "job" that huge? I assume there's an article or interview somewhere that would shed light on this. Someone like Carol Doda I can understand, but a country singer with lots of talent? I seriously don't get it...
It's hard to know what is real or not anymore in this day and age, but Dolly comes from an era where female country music artists were expected to have work done when they reached a certain age and the industry consensus at one point was that appearance and image are very important. Tammy Wynette, Jeannie Seely, Tanya Tucker and Helen Cornelius are some of many other examples. The AXS network just aired an interesting interview with Tanya Tucker this week. Hopefully they will do the same with Dolly in 2016.
I don't know whether she's had any breast augmentation surgery. She's always been big busted, and breast enhancement surgery wasn't so common when Dolly first appeared on the music scene. I think the plastic surgery comments are more about her face.
She's had her boobs done. She has said so. And they seem to have gotten smaller. I think she's had them done a few times. She joked once that when she got the royalty check for "Coat of many Colors" that she bought her Mom a mink coat and when she got the royalty check for "Jolene" she bought these.. Pointing to her boob's. Lol.
Look at video of her from Porter Wagner Show then Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Big difference and that's more than just from body weight.
Thanks for the responses, melstapler, lv70smusic and D-rock. As I said, I didn't want to derail the thread but I appreciate the comments. (Hi D-rock, I'm used to seeing you in the Monkees threads!). One of the great things about this forum is that it has turned me on to artists I didn't know about before, or influenced me to take another look at artists I may have overlooked or ignored. I'll be adding some Dolly to my collection based on the many quality posts in this thread. Is the Essential 3.0 collection the best place to start?
I don't have that collection. The 4CD Dolly box is very nice. May be too much Dolly for ya. But it can be found for decent prices. That'd be my suggestion. http://www.bullmoose.com/p/1730435/PARTON-DOLLY-DOLLY-BOX-SET-?gclid=CKC1la_G3coCFQ-raQod-1cMRQ

I think it skips the two Trio albums too but that was probably a licensing issue. Those albums are well worth owning in full. Plus the Trio box comes out this June.

Has anyone heard when Dolly's tickets to her August 2nd show at the Ohio State Fair will be going on sale? Presales? I initially heard April 2nd but ticketmaster.com says that sales date TBA... all the other acts have tickets available...
and of course Jolene I love. I need to hear more of her music. I haven't heard too much. Just most of the hits. The only album I've heard all the way through is Halos and Horns, which I do like.
