As entertaining as this thread is, I'd like to speculate/share what I'd like to see as far as Doors releases in the coming year(s). In my opinion, the BMA live shows (many of which are now hard to find or ridiculously expensive) would be worth a high-quality pressing on vinyl. For instance: - Live in Detroit (I'd be fine if they edited out Ray's meandering "blues jam" and the 20 minutes it takes to find a harmonica for John Sebastian. Do that and you might have the best Doors live release ever.) - Live in Philadelphia - Live in Pittsburgh - Aquarius 2nd show - 3 of the Felt Forum shows (1/17 late is killer) - Hell, even Boston could be cool (maybe a compilation of the "least (or most, if you'd prefer) drunk performances from both sets?) Put any of those shows on vinyl and I would smash that "pre-order" button RIGHT NOW. I've learned not to get my hopes up, but there's always a chance...
There's already a 2 lp bootleg of detroit out there that just got put out this year in Europe. Too bad the doors don't realize there's a demand for this material on vinyl and the boots are beating them to it. Meanwhile the doors spend their time re-releasing compilation albums. Still waiting for word that they've mailed off the Morrison poetry deluxe edition book. They took my money like half a year ago.
I've said it elsewhere, but I quite enjoy Boston ~ Jim's in good spirits, despite or because of his alcohol level, and the band's hot enough. And they play "The Spy."
Is your exciting insider news that they include an empty strange days box set box with every purchase of the new strange days scarf or strange days pillow ?
**ALLEGEDLY**, the hi-rez stereo and 5.1 mixes Botnick made 15 years ago were lost in a hard drive crash with no back up. Springsteen, is also having major trouble with his 2002-2003 live digital multis. I think Pixar had some animated movie hard drive crashes as well in that early 2000's. Aquarius RSD vinyl(also quite pricey) was a fresh mix from the multitrack tape and better for it. The Felt Forum 1 vinyl from 12-14 years actually paled in comparison to the AQ1 LP. There should be good money in doing the BMA from scratch on vinyl but even that they aren't doing. Maybe it's high on the list again since the 50th sets are now done,
I initially wrote off that performance of The Spy (“man, drunken Jimbo ruined another performance”), but have grown to love its goofiness. Jim’s delivery of “I knooowww everythang…” and his rambling/sobbing at the end are highlights.
Given its rarity, I'm impressed it's as tight as it is. (By contrast, witness the "Wild Child" attempt at Felt Forum.) Yeah, Jim seems able to laugh at himself on this night.
