Well, they are going with a "blues" theme. But what they really have in common is that they both are holdovers from other releases they could have done or will do in the future. Gotta strettttch that material to milk the fans for every dollar. Paris Blues should have been included with the LA woman release. No doubt we'll get a full Vancouver release in the future to sell the material once again.
https://www.reddit.com/r/thedoors/comments/qazi7f/robby_addressing_the_fabled_lost_doors_song_paris/ I wouldn't get TOO excited about Paris Blues, Robby sure doesn't think much of it.
I've always assumed Paris Blues will be interesting - but that it will be a bit underwhelming overall. Still - it's always a nice thing (for some of us) to get something new from The Doors. I understand some are sick of the bottom of the barrel - but I've a bit of a beggars can't be choosers attitude! I do like the album artwork. I wonder was that done by Robby? EDIT - Seeing that it is now - "The LP’s cover art is an original painting by guitarist Robby Krieger and the set also includes liner notes by blues scholar Mary Katherine Aldin."
Wasn't that released here - The Doors - The Doors Box Set Or is this a different take/version? - I guess it does say unreleased....
Why cut up the Cinemateque performance again into 2 tracks here, another track there, etc etc ... ????
AFAIK it has only been released in truncated form on An American Prayer. This is just Jim and Robby performing as a duo.
I could have done without the “translucent blue vinyl”, myself. I have not had the greatest experience with coloured vinyls over the years.
Obviously it's a "value add", meaning they can charge more money for the record because they dyed the plastic blue. But to be fair, black is not the vinyls natural color, that is also dyed.
Btw: Robbie Krieger already said in a 2021 interview that Paris Blues would be released. Other Voices: Robby Krieger’s Memoir Opens The Doors - Rock and Roll Globe So thanks @ Robbie for the leak.
"And there’s one song called “Paris Blues.” Somehow we lost the master tape on it, and all we had was this cassette; we all had a cassette, me and Ray and John, and everybody lost theirs, except for Ray. And then Ray said that Pablo, his five-year-old son, was playing with the cassette, just messing around, and he inadvertently messed it up, lost a couple of verses. And it had noise, it was all noisy. So just recently we got a copy of that and we fixed it up really good. So I think that’s one thing that will come out pretty soon. It’s pretty cool, just a simple blues, Jim was making up the words as he went along. It’s pretty neat."
