So with only a few weeks to go, The Doors web site still lists these tracks for Disc 3: Disc Three “I Am Troubled” “Seminary School” (aka “Petition The Lord With Prayer”) * “Rock Is Dead” – Complete Version * “Chaos” * So I guess Rock Is Dead is actually going to be one long single 64 minute track!
Don’t forget Manzarek’s immortal verse on Absolutely Live: “My baby get high now The woman get high now Smokin’ some grass Talk some trash Little piece of *ss My baby get high now My baby get high now The woman get high She get high Woah!”
Yeah, Ray's id goes to some weird places. I don't know enough about Dorothy to know whether she was equally...open? Ray was allegedly a pretty charismatic guy, but he didn't have Morrison's ability to suspend our disbelief when indecently exposing his subconscious. I agree that the 1970 tour can be a downer outside of NYC, but that Allen Theater show isn't so bad. I think it's after the first few months of the year that they really lost steam, but I haven't listened to Long Beach, Chicago, or the Winterland fragment in a while, so I don't recall how those fare...
Yeah, the “Stop The Car!” moment was quite the topic of conversation amongst Doors enthusiasts when Detroit was first issued.
When Dorothy, Ray, and Jim lived together, Ray cited a French movie whose title escapes me when describing their living situation. The key scene in the movie was a menage a trois. Ray was pretty specific when it came to cinematography. Based on that statement alone, one can draw their own conclusions on the goingons when they lived at the beach house. Sounds like Dot might have been pretty open.
I really like the energy of the first half of The Detroit show, especially the version of SoF, and I believe on Bright Midnight: Live in America, they actually released a version of The End with Ray mixed out. I keep forgetting to put that song in my official Detroit playlist. Also, I enjoyed Bakersfield from the 1970 tour, that's one of my go to shows for sure.
I'm not sure. I believe it might be an older French art film, but I'm not too sure. Someone here knows.
Add the Gene Clark No Other deluxe box to another that is listed on Amazon as "currently unavailable" and can't be pre-ordered. Also to mention: CD Japan only lists the imports of the LP/3-CD combo and single CD reissues, so no sign there of a CD-only release. Still crossing my fingers it will follow the pattern of the first three and eventually be available somewhere as a 3-CD only set without the LP. Waiting For the Sun came out with little fanfare just after Christmas in January this year, so hopefully they're trying to get as many as possible to spring for the full deluxe version as a pre-Christmas item before a CD-only version emerges.
A quick look at the track list on wikipedia and I'd say Ship Of Fools. Live in Detroit (Doors album) - Wikipedia
The first half of the Detroit concert is generally pretty strong, but the second half deteriorated quickly with Ray’s blues jam and the shambolic version of The End. I would like to see the Bakersfield concert released, but who knows if it will ever happen. It was scheduled for release in the mid-2000’s, but Ray had a change of heart, and it is possible Dorothy will honor Ray’s wishes and not grant her approval.
Okay I have no idea why! It feels like such a deep, almost sleazy jam. I really enjoy Love Me Two Times and the whole Back Door Man jam. It just feels like a real show to me. I wish there were more shows from their early small club days.
