Just watched an Ingrid Pitt double feature. Countess Dracula is more melodrama than horror but the scene where Ingrid bathes in virgin blood is kind of hot. Of course, watching this woman eat corn flakes would be kinda hot. The real gem was The Vampire Lovers, which is a first rate sexy lesbian horror flick. Ingrid would have made a great Vampirella too. I had forgotten how Boob-Forward Hammer films were, bless them.
Just watched the new blu-ray of Lust for a Vampire, which is bottom tier amongst the Hammer vampire series. Despite the ample topless women, it’s pretty boring and sedate.
I just finished watching "Scars of Dracula". My first impression from years ago still stands--it's a poorly directed, cheap mess of a movie with a couple of good sequences. How Roy Ward Baker could do a film as bad as this after doing some terrific work for Hammer and other studios mystifies me. The script just stinks.
Fearless Vampire Killers is being put on on Blu-ray from Warner Archive. I'm happy. Maybe the release of Tarrantino's Once Upon A Time in Hollywood prompted this along with the (sad) anniversary of Sharon Tate's murder.
No mention yet of Jess Franco's 1973 classic Female Vampire... ? A unique twist on the usual vampire concept, because.... (how should I put this in family-friendly terms?)... blood isn't the fluid that this vampire drinks from her victims to survive.
Anulka Dziubinska was one of the most beautiful women in all of horror movie history. I had this movie on VHS in my younger days and nearly wore out the tape during a couple of scenes in particular.
I had this film playing in the background during a band rehearsal once. Its one of the only times the other guitar player looked at me and gave me a sort of tsk tsk tsk look.
Surprised no one has mentioned John Carpenter's movie. Released on Shout Factory Blu-ray. The second movie is a good popcorn flick.
Why would you have a movie playing in the background during a band rehearsal? That would be incredibly distracting... especially if it was a vampire flick with lots of female flesh on display. I can't imagine it being a very productive session ...
Just turn the sound down and there is no distraction. Film can reflect moods or even give inspiration. Kind of like turning the lights down low or lighting candles.
I love it when Bugs starts changing The Count's physical form from human to bat and back again by saying words from the book on magic. Hilarious.
Great movie and Shout's new collector's edition has an awesome James Wood interview. John Carpenter's Vampires: Collector's Edition Blu-ray Review - DoBlu.com
Whats the best release of Horror of Dracula ? I have the original and think they have had to better all these years latter. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Actually, Roy Ward Baker should be credited with pulling that sinking mess together. It's actually a well-directed and well-edited film. The material is hardly worth the effort, but old pro that he is Baker invests it with visual style and dramatic flourish. It plays better with the sound turned off. Scars of Dracula had everything it needed to be a solid film. All they needed was to match the sets, locations and actors to a different script. A few strokes of the pen ...
I have all three annotated editions. They're all good, but Klinger's is the biggest with the mostest.
