So there is scuttlebutt that MOFI will be releasing The Eagles first two albums - The Eagles S/T and Desperado as One Steps. Can anyone out there substantiate this? Apparently Music Direct had this announcement on their website for a few hours then it was taken down. If true...I imagine these would sell out extremely quickly. Hotel California would be nice as well however the masters were possibly destroyed in the Universal fire.
Why would Warner store the Eagles master tapes at Universal? As far as I know none of those were there. it’s possible some of the Don Henley solo masters were there since they were recorded for Geffen
I preordered both. Sonically, I think that Desperado is going to be the gem of the catalogue. I have the Rhino versions (2013 box set versions cut by Bernie Grundman and later individual release cut by Chris Bellman), but heard that the Rhinos were not all analog. Am looking forward to them.
I don’t think MoFi “have the master tapes” these days (implies possession). At least with Sony, I believe that they are allowed to go there and make a reel tape copy from the master and then use that. Can’t imagine Warner would be any different, let alone with Eagles titles. But maybe someone else can chime in with better knowledge.
Yes. It is short hand for the Mobile Fidelity UltraDisc One Step - a high end audiophile product, remastered by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (or "MOFI") from the original master tapes, and pressed at 45 rpm on their proprietary "SuperVinyl" utilizing the "One Step" lacquer cutting process. Packaged in an outer box and limited in number to between 2500 and 10,000 copies, depending on the title. Technologies
Maybe this will get deleted, but I'm going on record that having the likely definitive versions of some of the highest selling albums of all time limited to under 10,000 copies, is going to both suck and be a giant sh*tshow for both record stores and the secondary market.
I wonder if these will come out on SACD. I think it will be pretty hard to top the DCC gold CDs imo. Did DCC use the master tapes when they made those CDs? Thanks.
One step means, lacquer master gets plated, and stampers made and records pressed. Skips the Mother stage in the normal process. Downside is, fewer records can be manufactured.
"You want to hear the best? Pay like the rest!" I agree it severely limits the audience for some of the best versions of some of the greatest albums, but that's life. I'm not going to die a broken man because I'm not willing or able to shell out for a $300 OOP MoFi pressing. But I dig what you're saying.
I am not as interested in another copy of Hotel California or Eagles Greatest Hits, and I don't usually preorder by telephone, but Desperado and If I Could only Remember My Name are records that I love and I am sure that I want the upcoming MOFI releases. So, to be safe, I called Music Direct Sales Department, and I have both on order. Desperado in a One Step @$125, and the Crosby is a 45rpm SuperVinyl @$74.99. I don't know if the Crosby will sell that quickly. The Classic Records 33 rpm vinyl was around at retail for around $30- $40 for many, many years. While I think it is a fantastic album, it is not as popular as other CSNY titles.
Music direct has the first LP available - but I do not see Desperado. Guess they’re only taking phone orders on that one….
