All system dependent. A shoot out on one system will sound different on another. But it is nice to hear what you’re hearing.

    Is it TVA?

Regardless, yes please link the video when your friend does the shootout.

Good to know! I should seek out more of those copies but man they’re so expensive. Between the digitized needledrop of the DCC and this OneStep I feel “okay” with the version I have access to now.

even original pressings are like hundreds now. Ouch.

And you will. I am preparing a video which will switch between all four pressing within the same song. It will be easily discernible. But in the meantime you can also download Hi-Res files of two songs I ripped from all four pressings here.

( the links to the Hi-Res files are given in the video )

Thanks for the shoot out, not surprised with the DCC SH lp, unfortunately not an affordable option.

New issue of Goldmine breaks down vinyl releases of Eagles' first 6 albums. Original, re-issues and MOFIs all are touched on.

    You are welcome buddy!

Also don't forget we gave everyone access to downloadable Hi-Res files in this video description for the tracks "Hotel California" and "New Kid in Town" for each of these pressings so you can hear with your own ears what's what. Perhaps some will still prefer the MOFI One-Step - and THAT'S OK.

I own the OneStep. The needledrop is from a well known guy who has a great system. He also posts comparisons on YouTube (and then shares the files from there and on his site). Grey area on forum rules (?) so I won’t explicitly say.
The quality of those digitizations is very high, and I compared a few of his vs pressings I own and they’re very very similar tonally. So I trust his digitizations and process.

Wow... I didn't understand the "guitar sounds a a mandolin" expression until I listened to the sample, but now I do!

It is in the description below the video. Click and drop down where it says the title of the video and “more…” When you click there it should open up to “Description” then click again and scroll down to the dropbox sample links

pssst, if you aren’t a digitalphobe, get the gold DCC ;)

Steve strove to get like tonality in both realms.

Bottom line, that gold DCC cd sounds incredible and to some even equal or better than the DCC lp.

    Just a thought

Ok, thank you for providing the links. I was finally able to find them and listen. To me, it comes down to two copies: The DCC and the One Step. The links correspond to what I hear, so it just comes down to system matching and subjective preference. In no way is the One Step unlistenable or too bright as you alluded to. The DCC is warm and has a mid bass punch to it that some may find appealing. The One Step brings out greater clarity to the vocals. I believe the One Step’s bass is more accurate, and I can hear the ambiance better defined. The DCC does lend a warm and fuzzy “glow” to vocals, but at the expense of inner clarity, in my opinion. This is more apparent on Hotel California. It all boils down to the system and the subjective preferences of each listener. All 4 copies have merits.

Ok here you go ladies and gentlemen!

The four Hotel California pressings involved in the shootout I did in collaboration with Scott Wilson
last week - except this time side-by-side-by-side!

Can you hear any differences? As always, all comments welcome and please enjoy!

    Friends,

I discovered a couple of bad typos so I went back to clean up and had to re-upload. I will share the new link next. Sorry for the inconvenience. I tried to delete the previous post but it seems I cannot.

    Cheers,
