Hugely underrated, though wish the horror had been a little more understated.

The Fog you say? Directed by that young film auteur, Mr John Carpenter? Yes, well...allow me to say that that it wasn’t very good at all. Quite bad, actually, yes....exquisitely bad, if I may be so bold.[IMG]

They Live is a brilliant idea but the overall execution was lacking something... I don't know what exactly; I do know Carpenter wanted it out quickly to coincide with the November '88 U.S. Presidential election, so maybe he rushed it more than it should have been, or maybe it was a bit too low-budget for it's own good and it should have been Kurt Russell or whoever in the lead role instead of Roddy Piper... I really can't put my finger on it.

But it an entertaining and darkly satirical fun bit of sci-fi hokum... and still has one of the best lines in any of Carpenter's movies; "I'm here to chew gum and kick ass... and I'm all out of gum!"

I do like it, don't get me wrong... is it 'classic Carpenter'..? Yeah, it is, but by the skin of it's teeth...

Is that a Carpenter cameo in scene 2 in the church?

I know what you mean about ' They Live'
Good idea, badly executed. Kurt Russell would gave been excellent in the lead. Piper 's ok but he's no actor.
And that fight between him and Keith David is ridiculous.
    Still enjoy it though.

  7. It’s one of Carpenter’s weakest in his early career IMhO. Not enough scares and disappointed in the wake of his other films. Having said that, it was cool seeing Janet Leigh and Jaime together in a film.
