Can't wait. Of course my first thought on seeing disc two was that this should have been a 4 disc set including all three shows!

Nice! Overall I think the original mix of Aoxomoxoa is the best thing The Dead ever did, but I sliiiiiightly prefer the remixes of "Doin' That Rag" and "China Cat Sunflower" over the original mixes.

I'm sure official release has been run up the flagpole before and been shot down. The archive.org version is as good as my 30+ year old cassette.

The first 8 cuts are the 8 track recordings. These were mixed in 1969 and released. (Never on CD). The 16 track remix was done in 1971. Disc 1 of this Anniversary set contains BOTH those mixes. Or am I misunderstanding your answer?

The "St. Stephen" from the '69 mix is recognizable from some Weir screams, edited out of the 16 track mix.

    What a small collection. :D

It's also available for pre-order at Amazon.

I was always led to believe that the sessions done on 8-track in late 1968 were shelved and they started from scratch with the brand new 16-track machine.
The 2 official mixes (69 and 71) are both from the sessions done on 16 track and the 8-track stuff was never released officially, but does circulate.

    No ‘Barbed Wire Whipping Party’?

I was hoping they’d include at least some of the outtakes from this era, but this is a must-buy anyway.

Amazon version is only 1 disc. Bonus disc is dead.net only. That wasn't clear in the announcement. Guess I'm ordering from dead.net this time.

I'm guessing that Amazon hasn't fully updated it's listings yet; the mp3 version shows the complete set.

That was not the case with 50th S/T or Anthem. I am pretty sure I got them from Amazon.

Amazon US is listing it as a 2 disc set.

Amazon UK lists it as 1 but I'm guessing that will be corrected. (I've ordered this set and the upcoming Broken Barricades set for 33.15 GBP.)

this is correct, except they were released officially as bonus tracks on the expanded Aoxomoxoa.

What is the "bonus" disc? The two previous albums in this series were two discs (one live, one studio) in a single digipack. That's how this one is listed on Amazon. Is there an option to get a third disc as a bonus from Dead.net?

If that’s the case, I stand corrected. I thought the remix was done because they got the 16 track.

Would love an outtakes disc with “Barbed Wire Whipping Party” and the alternate mixes. But Hunter said they won’t ever release BWWP. I guess these are the 8 track mixes. Yes?

To me the definitive version of all the songs are the 1969 mixes. The songs were certainly written & performed in such a way that the busy, psychedelic, dense mixes of the originals makes more sense to me in this collection.

Not to mention, why did they fade out all the songs that had nice complete endings? I love the ending of "Doin' That Rag"!
Some of them. The original "St. Stephen" has never been officially released, sadly, as it is really cool and would love an offical release of it.

I'm very excited about this release.

Looks like this has been covered already but the Amazon listing says 2-CD now. The other 50ths were 2 CD everywhere (not just Dead.net) so I’d think this would be the same.

I'm not sure about that one, maybe someone else can answer.
Did Hunter say why they'd never release it?

I can’t remember what Hunter said was the reason, but I think it was at his request, since he wrote the “lyrics.” There’s an insightful interview with him about it somewhere.

If I recall, there’s no advantage to buying the Anniversary releases from DeadNet unless you’re bundling with other merchandise.

Seems like the original mix should have been used for The Golden Road box.
