Man, 5/14/74 is just killer. Tight, almost bouncy, and a ton of fun. Not to mention a jazzy/fusiony Dark Star.
Dad was there too! I should have clarified. He's the Bill she was referring to. He passed away several years ago, I never got a chance to pick his brain about the GD shows they attended back in the day. We lived in Portland at the time (as you may hae guessed) and he was friends with Kesey and the Prankster crowd. Page Browning in particular. We used to go down to Eugene and hang at his farm - Page's kids were around the same age as myself at that time.
I want to share news of the passing of a fellow traveler who went by the name "Germain." He was a huge asset to the trading community, many, many of his torrents are found at etree, Lossless Legs, and elsewhere. A generous soul who shared freely the music we all know and love. RIP Germain
Both groups covered “Morning Dew” as well. Maybe not at those shows, I haven’t looked, but they at least had that in common.
Just got this email from Real Gone, thought I’d share it here in case anyone else was waiting or looking for Road Trips Vol 3 No 3: Dear Friend: Thank you so much for your continued patronage of Real Gone Music, and thank you for your order of Grateful Dead: Road Trips Vol. 3 No. 3. We are sorry to say we don’t have any to send you, even though today is, or was, the official street date. We should have had our product long ago; but the vendor, Warner Music, recently changed manufacturers and warehouses, which has disrupted our supply chain. Our shipment was sent to their warehouse instead of ours, and they failed to receive it properly. We are working with them to locate the product and have it sent to us. If it’s any consolation, nobody else has this volume of Road Trips; it has yet to be shipped to stores. Believe us, we are just as frustrated as you are. Please be patient and as soon as we receive the product, we will ship it out to you. Gordon and Gabby at Real Gone
Nicky Hopkins played with Jeff Beck Group, later with Garcia. There too I don't know if Hopkins was at those shows.
Thanks for sharing. I have been keeping an eye on my inbox for shipping information, this explains why it hasn't come through yet. I was hoping that receipt of this could hold me over until this years box set announcement and get me through a few upcoming road trips of my own, oh well.
every dead fan needs to listen to this show. shame only caution exists in good quality which was released on the fillmore west 69 box bonus disc.
I totally recognize his name from eTree. There are certain seeders I will occasionally sort the torrents by, because they were reliably posting good stuff, and I know Germain was one of the names I sorted by in the past.
That bass drum low end on Dupree in the new (original) mix of Aoxomoxoa... HOOOOOLLLLY SHHHHHIIII..... ‘Bout blew the roof off my house. I think my active sub wound up across the street in my neighbor’s flower garden.
And let’s hope changing manufacturers turns out to be a good thing (if the same one will be used for the Rhino/GD releases, which would benefit from greater quality control).
HQ of the US Strategic Air Command (Cold War stuff), buried in a Cheyenne Mountain adjacent to Colorado Spring, CO. Ground Zero for a whole bunch of Russian nukes. Now it's a State Park, too.
