I ordered the July 1978 box set at the beginning of November when Dead.net were offering discounts, but this morning just received an email telling me it was out of stock and my order would be refunded
Wait till they find the remaining supply and put it back up for sale at full $ thereby screwing your order over completely.
Now 12/11/72[Winterland]on TIGDH on SiriusXM's Grateful Dead channel via the webstream now playing China Cat Sunflower.
Currently freaking out/melting down to the strains of minute 14-ish of Playin' in the Band from 5/21/74 (PNW box). Y'know, the 47-minute version. The kitchen iPod remains stocked with 74 Dead, which provides a nice balance to spring 90, into which I have delved. (My plan is to alternate the spring 90 venues with the remaining shows I haven't heard from Europe 72, starting, I think, with 5/7, although it's possible I've not actually listened to both Paris shows. I'll have to check.) I definitely enjoyed the setlist diversity of 3/14/90. Honestly, other than Never Trust a Woman (ick), there wasn't really anything I was bummed to hear. Great Let It Grow at the close of the first set. Second set pretty much knocked me out all the way through, even considering my lack of enthusiasm for I Need a Miracle and the fact that a Weir-led Lovelight is but a pale shadow of what used to be. Also had no idea that was the first Loose Lucy since 74. All in all, a great start to what I hope will be an enlightening deep dive into a period that I haven't explored in depth.
I watched the movie Inside Llewyn Davis this weekend (it was ok). It is about a folk singer in NYC just before Dylan arrives. The movie opens with a nice version of I’ve Been All Around This World. So I listened to Reckoning today. Really an amazing album. The acoustic arrangements are spot on and Brent has a really light touch on piano on several tunes - especially Bird Song. The vocal harmonies are also excellent. Was there any studio overdubbing done for this one or did the quiet acoustic stage allow for them to hear and harmonize better than usual?
I suggest you listen to them again. Whether you've heard them or not. You can never be too careful with these E72 shows.
NP: DP 33 10/9-10/10/76 Oakland Coliseum. Really digging this show. Just finished Playing in the Band>Drums>The Wheel>Space>The Other One>Stella Blue>Playing in the Band segment from the 2nd night. Awesome! Will go back and listen to more of the first night.
I would like to know your top five, I own about half of them and your input could help clarify the ones I should actively go and buy, for a reasonable sum.
Wow. I'd heard this show before but either didn't notice or forgot that this NFA smokes. This will be my closing argument against all Donna haters.
