I saw it at a record store when I was in college in the 80s, and my friend who got me going to shows told me not to buy it. I forget why.
I think the reason that song received so much air-play is because it appeared on vol. 4 of XRT's annual "Live from the Archives" CD release. These CDs were traditionally released around Christmas time and raised money for local charities. Eventually, they would release 19 discs (all highly recommended!). Sadly, this Chicago tradition ended a couple of years ago.
Listened to 11/4/77 (Colgate University) a little while ago. Great show, this one delivers some top quality jams. The highlights are Eyes Of The World, Playing In The Band, Estimated Prophet, The Other One and Stella Blue. Just damn perfect, is what I would describe it all. I can’t really find any words to properly describe how flawless a show like this sounds. The solos are just sublime. It all sounds so effortless and that’s what I love about it.
Nah. I want to say it was because he had more complete tapes of those shows, but I really can't remember. Or it could have been because Reckoning was out, I already had it, and he clued me in to it being the same music.
Radio City; March 2-3, 2018. I like these shows. They're like an old pair of jeans. Does it get any more comfortable?
Now listening to 3/27/87[Hartford]on TIGDH on SiriusXM's Grateful Dead channel via the webstream now playing Touch Of Grey.
24 October 1971- Easttown Theater, Detroit Second set- a Dark Star crashed in the Motor City and I need to check it out.
A Sunday show and the second of two shows at the Easttown Theatre. Keith’s 5th show and his second Dark Star. Also the 4th show in a 4 day period.
For quite a few years I obsessed about those holiday radio station compilations. WXRT, KGSR (Austin), KFOG (SF), KBCO (Boulder), etc. The KBCO ones were nearly impossible to get. One of the earliest ones I got was "Warriors KFOG Jam" that included the 3-29-90 (Branford) Bird Song. Various - Warriors KFOG Jam Looks like KGSR and KBCO are still doing them.
"Don't forget to vote YES on 12* if you can vote." I love 10/9 and 10/10 as they were my first (live show) Dead tapes. I *should* have gone to those shows as there was a group of folks road-tripping to them, but it was my first weekend of homework as a Freshman at Caltech and I felt the need to be responsible. Got the tapes the next weekend at a dubbing party. Spent many hours trying to figure out the words to that "Ashes Ashes All Fall Down" new song that people that did go were raving about. I never did make it to the Frost. :-( *California Proposition 12, Bilateral Nuclear Weapons Freeze Initiative (1982) - Ballotpedia
Cool writeup! I went the next night and heard reports of the previous night from folks that were there, was sorry to miss a “new” song. I drove by myself from my home in Boston then drove home and went to work the next morning on 3 hours sleep!
Gone are the days, huh? When I was in my 20's and living in Boston, my band used to frequently play Tuesday nights at this club in southern Rhode Island (about 2 hours away). I would be getting home around 4am and getting to work by 9. Flash forward ten years and I could barely roll out of bed if I got in that late.
I know! That Kenny picture needs to be put in quarantine. (Too soon? Yes. PM me with all complaints.) I need to finish Dave's 30, and then on to the '76 box?
Dark Star>Eyes from 11/11/73 This almost makes everything else disappear.... As great as it ever was..... peace and blessings to everyone here and to think years ago I had forgotten what love is......
plus I do believe the sound in my Mustang is as great to me as I would ever need to hear this or any other music as I look at the shoppers going into the local Stop & Shop here in Wayne, NJ should I register it as my gear to satisfy the audiophile heads?!?
