    I was thinking they were Native American names... shows the value of a 30-year-old liberal arts degree today, LOL...

    My daughter lives near where the fire occurred, and I was on the phone with her yesterday when she drove past some of the damage for the first time, she was shocked by what she saw.

    As for whack-job cults, don't get me started!

    There are a few bonus discs that really deliver. My list would include:
    • Rockin' the Rhein - from 3/22-23/72;
    • Band Beyond Description - includes the full 3/23/75 BFA set and a great WRS from the 10/74 Winterland shows;
    • 2011 bonus disc from 12/6/73;
    • DaP 34 bonus disc from 6/22/74; and
    • DaP 2 bonus disc from 7/29/74 - the WRS is much better than the version on the main release, IMO.
    Hmmm, 1972-1975. Who would have guessed?

    I’m also partial to the bonus discs of shows I attended.

    The MSG 90 bonus disc has some great stuff.......but I prefer listening to those shows complete.

    The Meadowlands 88 bonus disc is interesting if you want to hear the world’s worst “All Along The Watchtower.”

    My voice is among those you heard. Hampton ‘89 was also amazing, but that MSG ‘90 one is probably the best one I caught live.

    10/31/71 set 1 on, followed by set 2 from Dick's Picks volume 2. Never listened to the first set, so should be cool to hear the 2nd set in context of the full show.

    In the past week and a half, I've listened to these '71 shows in chronological order:

    Feb. '71 Port Chester shows
    Skull and Roses (April '71)
    Ladies and Gentlemen... (April '71)
    1971/07/02 San Francisco, CA (Skull & Roses 50th Anniversary)
    A few highlights from Summer '71 (RT 1.3)
    1971/10/31 Columbus, OH (SBD + Dick's Picks Volume 2)

    It's cool to hear how they progressed from the still-PigPen dominated era, to where they wound up in late '71, sounding much much closer to their '72-74 selves.
    When did PigPen temporarily depart then return in '71?? Since he's not there on 10/31 but is on the early December shows (as heard on the Listen to the River box set)

    Pigpen was starting to get seriously ill and took a few months off in 1971

    Pig was hospitalized in September 1971. It was during this time that Donna Jean tugged at Jerry's sleeve during a club gig in Bay Area and introduced him to Keith. His first show was 19 October 1971- Northrup Auditorium, Minneapolis.

    Pig was not on this tour, having last performed at Gaelic Park in The Bronx on 26 Aug. Pigpen returned to the stage on 1 December 1971- The Music Hall, Boston. Mind blowing That's It For The Other One at that show, only set 2 circulates.

    Sweet goodness, while keeping up with the thread (thru Christmas day so far)
    in the last few weeks--on the road=missing time-I'm tapping into an old favorite
    again, The Mosque Richmond, Va 5-25-77. I've got it opened up good while my
    amp is behaving and not shutting down on me (otherwise headphone time)
    so far. I have always liked this show, the sound is very clear, lot of air underneath
    the playing, separation brilliance, Phil's bass and tone is prominent, the band is
    laid back but 'on' during Estimated Prophet>He's Gone with most delicate of
    transitions. The vocals on He's Gone are gorgeous btw, it doesn't get any sweeter.
    Don't see this one mentioned too much in the GD thread, but I've never remembered
    anything resembling anything even respectfully negative. So on to the disc 3, and a
    belated Happy New Year to the Gratefuls who make the thread enjoyable beyond
    the imagination of the cover art (like it or not-lol) , and rivaled by no other, no other...
