I like when drums are separate tracks. I wish all of The Other Ones had separate drums and separate Crypticals. Sometimes they do sometimes they don't. There are times when I just don't feel like listening to 7 minutes of drums in the middle of That's it for the Other Drum.
Some of the mixes can come through with strong midrange. EQ is your friend, no room or system is perfect, do what you need for your listening bliss!
This is kinda dumb but I love hearing the "click" when Jerry turns on the wah pedal during PITB. Signifies the spacey-ness that's a-comin
Listened to the first set today. Not one of the better sections of the Dick's series, though of course the second set redeems it.
I was listening to Aoxomoxoa and wondered if there was a live version of Rosemary. I read that this one, recorded on 12.7.1968, is the only live rendition of the song:
Another track from Aoxomoxoa, What's Become of the Baby, was never played live by the Grateful Dead, to my knowledge. But Phil Lesh and Friends covered it on 12.17.2004: Edit: I read in the comments in YouTube that the Dead played it once, in 1969.
That's the thing - 9 June is mostly outstanding, and the same quality comes back a bit on 14 June and on 19 June then in moments in the shows for the rest of June but things got significantly better as that year progressed, as you would expect with June being their first regular live playing together since, at a pinch, October '74 (though they didn't really play regularly in '74 other than between mid-May and early August.)
Playin>UJB>Morning Dew>UJB>Playin just blew through my soul and I'm re-entering the atmosphere into the caring arms of Stella Blue.
There are so many great segments in that run of shows in mid-Nov 73, but that PITB palindrome from 11/17 is a strong contender for my favorite. It’s been a couple months since I listened to that show. I should go back to it soon.
Here's an interesting 3 minutes............... "What's Become Of The Baby" and "Barbed Wire Whipping Party."
i still need to snag this release, I know, I reported…….I swear I purchased it, it may never have came or was lost.
I don't think it was really played but a tape of it was played over the pa during feedback at a show in Chicago.
The OG In The Dark totally pops on vinyl so I'm sure the reissue is killer too. "Hell in a Bucket' is very loudly mastered and obnoxious, just like the real thing and the "West LA" is a thing of beauty.. "Push Comes to Shove" and "Tons of Steal" are no works of genius but in this context seem to work well. This era is in my wheelhouse though. At the end of the day I'm probably grabbing it before almost all other studio albums except for Aoxoamoxoa, Workingman's and AB. It has a real genuine energy to it and is true to their live sound. I almsot always choose live Dead recordings over their studio era equivelants but love grabbing In the Dark to capture the sound of 87. Plus I'm an unabashed "Touch Head" so you know, vibe killing is my jam, here on the SHF too. <wink, wink>
