Conclusion: china>rider way to slow & irredeemable as was a later GRTRFB / He’s Gone is already slow and it was very good. Chementi was tremendous throughout as was Barry Sless. funny watching the dancers on the floor and around me “lurch” rather than dance. I never got up once. the highlights were all on the margins. Abstract improv during watchtower. If they ever came back in at the right tempo it would have blown the place up. Abstract improv towards the end of rider that destroyed any energy yet was fascinating to hear Bobby crunching and Sless & Chementi “normalizing” it. Bob REALLY wishes he could play a real solo, I know it. As Stella started out of watchtower I left. Thank god I missed Sugar Magnolia as it would have been stultifying. Loved the experience. Glad I went. Has me thinking about buying a second night for Phil as no one will be lurching in March.
5/15/70 Dark Star. Not talked about a lot, but slowly creeps up on you after the halfway mark. From 12:00 - 17:00 is some tasty vintage 1970 Dark Star. Jerry soars. I'm glad Bear was around for this one. His incarceration was a crime against the arts.
In the liner notes, DL mentions that the Betty board had too many problems for those tracks, so they used Aud source from Bob Menke.
Rye/pumpernickel bread is definitely acceptable, although I prefer the touch of sweetness you get from a Pepperidge Farm multi-grain or oatmeal bread. I would probably go with a Swiss or cheddar if I was using rye bread, but those don't melt as easily so you have to be extra vigilant while grilling to get the proper degree of meltage without burning the bread.
they did start to come and thats why i was like ummm..... i haven't read any liner notes and was making sure my copy wasn't jacked up
Mayo on the outside of the bread is a “pro move,” now let’s debate what brand of Mayo will elevate a lot grilled cheese to must have , my vote is Duke’s out of the SE US of A.
Dave should do more 80s and 90s releases is what he should do. Love the 70s so much - but we have a lot.
Tasty new Seamons matrix from 7/12/90 (aka my favorite Brent Dark Star), sounds great with the crowd in there.
I’ve said more than once, they should start a new audience taper series separate from Dave’s super 70s series…each one an audience recording or 2 from a highlighted taper over the years. That would address the dry board and digital recording issues, highlight the taper culture and get some credit to those who worked hard for our hobby over the years. The 80s would shine here. There are some absolutely stellar audience recordings and some great tapers out there Even the latest Dylan bootleg series released used audience recordings for the live disc and we all know how he feels about tapers
