4.23.69, The Ark, Boston, MA Awesome show... I'd put it maybe slightly behind the previous two nights but all three kick ass.
Many of us buy things that are freely available already anyway. I think an official release that highlighted not only the performance but the taper would make a great series
To get us to buy the same shows over again. Oh, you meant what would motivate Deadheads to buy them? They exist.
Same, also last March, and going again in a few weeks when he returns to Kansas City. We got an Iko Iko last time, so your Mardi Gras comparison makes sense to me. Too bad about the China>Rider, which was maybe the highlight for me when I saw him last year, emphasis on the Rider. Glad you enjoyed it overall. Wouldn't catch me skipping a Sugar Magnolia, though. Speaking of Sugar Magnolia, 2/1/78's got a great Jerry solo! I listened to this one yesterday, and yes, the first set is like 45-50 minutes! Second set is pretty great, though. The folks complaining about this in the Dylan Fragments thread... my god. Agreed that a taper series would be fun.
Academy of Music 72. Need to revisit this stuff. And Garcia 72, the year he should have gone solo. Wait what.
Yeah I know. Like I said I'm skipping boxes on this run as I just did all of them. Sticking to Daves, Dicks, Trips and Download plus some random ones like Steppin' Out that I hardly listen to. I did the Dicks, Daves, Trips and Download all in order and then all the boxes in Oct/Nov/Dec, but I want to do em chronologically this time.
Clever name. They meant it at first as slang for money but when they had MOR hits it became about food.
Please no. MSG was enough for quite some time. If he wants his series to survive he needs to throttle back to 1967 - 1974.
Bloody HELL, mate!...can ye reckon fixin a Stinkin' Bishop Butty in the caravan park at Wigan then?.... MUST be a yank thing the lads reckon...the Dead punters the lads known went to the bloody gigs ta gobble Lysergics and quaff ale...NOT get on with the Gallopin' Gourmet, my sons!....speakin of, me mate Wylee knew yer man back in Birmingham yonks Wylee done...art college them...said yer man would come ta class in bird knickers and bee-hive doo..the local Brummies would instruct Professor Albert speak ta yer man early and often during semester...Wylee matriculated at Lyceum class of '72 Proper bloke, Wylee!
Perfect rock & roll Grateful Dead with a nod to past freakouts ('69) and future ('73) freakouts ("Playing," for example.) I sometimes don't play it because of its perfection. Shouldn't I be checking out another year or era? Can't eat your favorite food everyday, right? But today I could not resist and was awarded with the gift of repeated listening. I love "Going Down the Road Feeling Bad" uh huh huh 'cuz it's a great bar band rocker. This once scorches but I'd like to point y'all to the coda at the end (Mr. Redundant is here) where Jerry is just out there for the last 50 seconds. Stop what you're doing and listen. And speaking of paying for free shows because they exist, I listened to my old version of 2 October 1977 to compare to Dave's 45 when it shows up. The Fire in the Scar>Fire is what makes this a top Scar>Fire. Scar>Fire is what got me into collecting live Dead and 10/2 was an early influencer.
