On the Bus: 40-Year Retrospective of Europe '72: 5/13/72 Lille: "Truckin'," Mother's Day for Peace, & Grand Cru
Hey, I've been busy with family life and have not checked in for a bit. Love you all and hope everyone is doing great!
I'll follow up with my semi-annual "1991 is such an overlooked year, with so many highlights" post. Most shows had more highs than cringes. Just sayin' Amazing Jerry solos and some great Jerry, Phil, Vince moments. When they are all dialed.
This is just the sort of post that makes this thread one of the most brilliant bastions of civility on the interwebs. Well played, Squire.
In 1991, I caught 18, being the Cap Center(all 4), Greensboro, the Omni(all 3), Orlando, Deer Creek(all 3), Buckeye, Pine Knob, Soldier’s, and Richfield(all 3). Orlando was the only show I didn’t really like and that’s cuz nobody needs to be in a tear gas situation, at a Dead show…ever…especially with a headful. 1991 was a pretty great year. (edit…scratch tear gas comment…that was 1994. We just did Sunday in 1991, then drove back to OhighO).
We are also doing a garcia/dylan/dead thing in May if anyone's around. Gratefully Dylan - The Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan Collaboartions — The Strand Theatre
(I post this every year but).......... March 27th is the day I saw my most Grateful Dead shows..........8 total. 3/27/85 Nassau (my 2nd show) 3/27/86 Portland 3/27/87 Hartford 3/27/88 Hampton 3/27/91 Nassau 3/27/93 Albany 3/27/94 Nassau 3/27/95 Atlanta (They played 3/27/89 in Atlanta - I didn't see that one)
I caught 22 in 1991.....Albany (all 3), Nassau (all 3), Greensboro (both), Giants (both), Madison Square Garden (all 9), and Boston (first 3). It's not one of my favorite years based on that. I only consider both Greenboro, 6/17 Giants, a few MSG (9/19-14-16), and 9/20's 2nd set to be really good/great. While some others are very good, there are quite a few duds in this group.
