Wrapping up 4/15/78 (Dave's 37) this afternoon. Morning Dew emerged out of Not Fade Away while I was driving back from the grocery store. Kinda forgot they played that at this show! First one since 6/7/77, and the last one with Keith and Donna. That got me thinking, 'Where did St. Stephen go?' Evidently much like Let It Grow would disappear from the Godchaux-era repertoire after the brilliant performance on 5/14/78, St. Stephen was shelved after the wonderful 1/22/78 show until 12/30/78, the first of only three more performances with the Godchauxs. I do wonder what St. Stephen would've sounded like as 1978 developed. Guess it's just kinda like how we're missing Bird Song from Europe 72 and fall 73, that sorta thing.
I don’t recall ever seeing this but def one of the better discussions on the GD I’ve ever seen. Usually these things go all sorts of wrong
I've seen short clips of this before, but not the whole thing. Really fun to listen to, and really sharp and insightful commentary. Thanks for sharing! I've got 3/29/90 next in line for this evening.
While I knew many songs disappeared in the move from '77 to '78 (Help>Slip, UJB, Dew/Wheel/Comes a Time only had one '78 appearance, others I'm forgetting I'm sure), it hadn't occurred to me the same thing was occurring throughout '78. No wonder the July tour feels so repetitive.
Hey I found an off the beaten path show I really like. Planet drum teases all over drums space. Bruce Hornsby show. 2/20/91 Oakland coliseum
