Smartphone ownership is exploding across Africa. Keep in mind that some flip phones can play music, too.
I've read the Dragon has high maintenance, I have the little dragon aka BX-300 which is cheaper to run.
I purchased mine used in 2007 for $800.00 and spent $250.00 to have it gone over and it's been running good ever since. It will go in next year for an overhaul which will cost ~$850.00. M~
Really? Flip phones are decidedly low-tech and it is hard to imagine it will incorporate some kind of SS chip to make MP3 recording possible without destroying its low price ...
The circuits to enable MP3 playback cost almost nothing now. We're talking pennies. This $10 prepaid phone supports MP3 playback and can take up to a 32GB Micro SD card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GBRB55Z/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1 Flip phones have supported MP3 playback now for something like a decade, and it's been common for at least 5 years now.
Sony TC-K950Es has a frequency response of 15HZ to 22kHz using metal tape, other formulas close. But this is only one parameter of what's important, right. The bottom-line is there are plenty of late 80's compact cassette recorders out there that are awesome. Distinguishing any one as being the best, in all manner that best can be discerned is just a fools errand, sponsored or fueled by folks promoting the recorder that they own today. One thing for sure, if the recorder is broken and cannot be repaired, that recorder is now only best in the category of expensive paper weights; and, this makes me think the award for best might go to the decks out there that have best stood the test of time.
But Sony and a few others could only match Nakamichi and Tandberg in the FR dept when one used metal tapes. I am still a bit more impressed when I can get the 20-20K from the lowly ferric oxide tapes. With these legendary vintage decks, parts availability is a major problem ...
The BX-300 is still a better deck than most Sony decks IMHO. I have 4 Nak's and spent almost $1K to completely overhaul the 700ZXE about 10 years ago ...
