Since October is right around the corner, figured I'd create a thread for the "HALLOWEEN" series

Boy, this time line is really messed up nowadays

    You have

    The original Halloween(1978)
    Halloween 2
Halloween 3 -Nothing to do with Michael Myers
    Halloween 4
    Halloween 5
    Halloween 6
    Halloween H20 (Ignores 3 through 6)
    Halloween Resurrection

The Rob Zombie 2 Halloween movies

    Halloween (2018)

I have seen them all except the Rob Zombie ones and the 2018 mvovie

I rank em Halloween, Halloween 4, Halloween H20, Halloween 3, Halloween 2, Halloween 6, Halloween 5, Halloween Resurrection

I think Halloween (1978) is a terrific film but i do prefer the Friday series

I watch these movies every Halloween, anyone else?

I love these movies! My partner and I watch them every year even though she's scared of horror films!

I think I tend to rate Halloween 6 higher than most, mainly because even though the curse stuff is hokey crap I just love this Michael Myers. He's built just right, walks like Myers should walk, looks and feels frightening. This might be my favourite Myers.

    1. Halloween (1978)

    2. Halloween 6

    3. Halloween (2018)

    4. Halloween 2

    5. Halloween 2 (2009, Rob Zombie) - this ranks well because everything at the start on the hospital is just horrific and really well done. The way Annie dies is incredibly well done, and very sad. Played wonderfully by Danielle Harris.

    6. Halloween H20

    7. Halloween 5

    8. Halloween 4

    9. Halloween (2007, Rob Zombie)

    10. Halloween Resurrection - this is the Batman & Robin of the franchise.

I'm not including Halloween 3 because it lacks a Michael Myers and so doesn't count in my mind :)

Can't say I'd rate it as highly (plus you have to take into account which version of 6 we're talking about).

One area I do rate it highly in is the production design. Aside from the first two films, this is the only other one that captures the vibe of the holiday.

If you're trying to figure out the timelines of the various movies, I kept this listing that someone posted awhile back:

    Halloween 1 + Halloween 2018 = First continuity
    Halloween 1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 6 = Second continuity
    Halloween 1 + 2 + H20 + Resurrection = Third timeline
The Rob Zombie Movies = Fourth continuity

    with the following extras:
    Halloween 8: The Homecoming (Workprint)
    Halloween 6: Unrated Producer's Cut
    H2O: TV Cut

There were also TV cuts of 1 and 2 (I believe) that added in some extra footage to pad the time for broadcast.

This might help some of you watch them this season!

Yeah, they definitely captured the right feel in this one.

Also, I LOVE this little scene. They way he walks out of the darkness is tremendous.

I like Glaeken's order of the movies ranked with one exception, Halloween 2018 which I have dropped a little bit lower on the scale:

    Halloween
    Halloween II
    Halloween III
    Halloween H20
    Halloween 2018
    Halloween IV
    Halloween 6
    Halloween 5
    Halloween Resurrection

The less said about Rob Zombie's interpretations the better.

Rob Zombie’s takes were a disappointment, especially the second one.

The first is the best. I also like H2O.

Halloween 3 is my favorite of all the Halloween sequels by far. I don't even bother to watch any of the other sequels anymore. I was there in the theater opening weekend and I knew at that time it had nothing to do with the first two and I was glad. I was looking forward to the "anthology" plans that they planned for the series with a new Halloween centric film each year with a completely different story.

I love the original and part III, and enjoy the original part II (partially out of nostalgia, but it’s a very flawed, jumbled film, due to three creative parties pulling in different directions). I think IV holds up very well as the best of the later sequels, along with the 2018 film. I avoid the Zombie films.

The scenes added to the television cut of Halloween were shot during the production of Halloween II.

The television cut of Halloween II is bizarre and sometimes unintentionally hilarious. In order to meet network television standards (of the time), almost all of the violence was cut. So...Michael Myers just...lunges at people, mostly (though the hot tub scene was left mostly intact). Some scenes cut from the theatrical edit were added back (causing continuity problems), and other scenes were nonsensically moved around. To cover gaps, a motionless insert shot of Myers was dropped into two scenes (that's the hilarious part). It's very strange.

I love how atmospheric Halloween III is - too bad the story is so ridiculous. But it shows what the series should have been: an anthology.

The original is my favorite. Halloween II (1981) is fun but inferior. And H20 was a good wrap up. The rest don’t interest me.

Halloween has worked its way into my top 10 favorite films of all time. I think it’s something every horror director should strive for, or any director for that matter. Wonderfully original.

The new film is what made me even look toward Halloween at all. (I made sure to watch the original before seeing, I hadn’t seen any). I thought it was great. I easily scare, and I was shaking like Shaggy and Scooby in the theater. Even enjoyed it at home a week or two ago. Very much looking forward to the next installation.

I saw the 2018 movie a couple of months ago and enjoyed it. I would have to say first, second, III and 2018 and can do without the rest even though I have seen them

The Changing Face of Michael Myers. All Masks 1978 to 2009

I remember being excited about Halloween 4. But the mask was all wrong and to me that was a distraction.

When I saw the movie poster for this it is clearly the original mask on the poster. But in the movie we had this:

Left Halloween 4, right Halloween 5. At the beginning of Halloween 5, Michael washes down a sewer with the mask on the left but comes out with the mask on the right. Clearly a different mask.

And the movie poster for 5? Again, the original mask.

They just couldn't seem to get the mask right for any of the sequels until 2018, which looks the most like the original. Too bad Trick Or Treat Studios wasn't around when they made Halloween 4.

I wish I had known that 3 had nothing to do with the first two. I saw it at the drive-in, expecting Michael Myers 3, and we spent the first half of the movie wondering where the hell Myers was and the second half wondering why they called it Halloween 3.

Halloween (1978) - classic slow burn
Halloween 2 - a true body count slasher
Halloween 5 - Atmosphere and great child performances
Halloween 4 - Fun, if actiony
    Halloween 3 - Creepy, great 80's look/score.
Halloween 2 (Zombie) - Liked the doc as the monster.
Halloween Resurrection - Man, Busta Rhymes almost killed this one, still fun.
Halloween H20 - A lot of boring false scares leading to the quality ending.
Halloween (2018) - Eh, fine. But pointless.
Halloween (Zombie) - Zombie went overboard with the white trash angle.
Halloween 6 - The cult angle is stupid.
