    Exactly....!
Oh, you thought I was saying that 'coz I think they're sexy...
BUT, I was saying that 'coz they were like, "OK, Beatle-fan! You 'get' this!..You BUY this!"

Are you saying they're not sexy. What a disservice!

    Being 53, I'll say they're 'cuties'.....
I avoid calling any one born after John Lennon died, 'sexy'!

Well, as much as I disagree with your premise, this might be a good time to point out that they were both born in the early 70s ...

Probably even worse for a 50+ year old to go down that route ...

    Well...my true 'point' was...
They were certainly 'aiming' that cover to people like me, since the actual Japanese cover looked like THIS:
Do I feel 'manipulated'?.....sure, but the QUALITY of the music negates the feelings of being a 'sucker' for anyone that does 'Beatle-related' satire for their cover!

  13. It doesn't get any more kawaii than Kira☆Pika. Here's "Hana wo Puun" (flick your nose), the greatest song about snot ever!

Pizzicato 5 got a lot of attention in the mid '90s from the US college crowd. I was lucky enough to see them live at the tiny Cotton Club in Atlanta.

Notice the group's name is misspelled on the ticket: "Pizza"cato 5. No respect I tell ya!

Everything Hello Project is amazing . Therefore that was also amazing. As well as being sickly sweet. And snotty.

I have to raise you Aya Matsuura though. If this woman didn't invent Kawaii she sure has hell embodied it. Why we can't get these videos in HD though...

    Speaking of Kawaii ...

This is one song that I think is quite complex and very interesting, but deceptively so. And also very cute. Absolutely love this. Gorgeous video too.

Sequence from Takeshi Kitano’s film DOLLS, in which Kyoko Fukada appeared as a heroine.

I'm a big fan of the experimental idol group 3776, with instrumentalist/songwriter Akira Ishida and singer Chiyono Ide. Their most recent album, 歳時記 (Saijiki), is about the passage of time / changing of seasons around Mt. Fuji. There are twelve songs, one to represent each month. Unfortunately, most of their music is hard for westerners like myself to track down, and there's still a lot I haven't been able to listen to.

Their first album, 3776を聴かない理由があるとすれば (Why Don't You Listen to 3776?), is a concept album about climbing Mt. Fuji with the band as your guide. They also have multiple experimental live albums featuring extended looping and improvisation (which I am a big fan of), solo albums for the singer, EPs, videos, and tons of stuff to explore, if you can find it.

This is very interesting indeed. I might have to find a copy of this and give it a proper listen. Perhaps a little too electro-experimental for my tastes I dunno!! I think I sortof remember seeing it recommended when it released but couldn't find a copy at the time. Thanks for posting.

Absolutely love that Otoboke Beaver album too, btw

I wanted to update with interesting new stuff that I find.
Beyooooooonds is the latest new Hello project sensation. Their music isn't written by Tsunku and sometimes comes across as a bit of a pastiche - they are, however, much heavier on the sense of humour than most of the other popular idol groups nowadays and it seems to have struck a chord. The latest single isn't as good as what they put out last year but this is a delightfully chosen cover of the Toto Coelo song "Dracula's Tango (Sucker for your love, not a song I'd remembered ...
