How does that 2002 sound? The 2009 cd has a but too much compression.

With Jerry Dodgion (af) Peter Phillips (bt) Thad Jones (flg) Ron Carter (b) Mickey Roker (d). From 1968, when Herbie was transitioning from the 2d classic Miles quintet and his solo career that would become increasingly funky and electronic. This is closer to Miles than Headhunters with its horn-centric sound, but you can still hear the experimental side that would characterize his later work.

  5. From the 20 CD Box JAZZ from America ON disques vogue (Sony Music/Legacy)

Sidney Bechet Blue Note Jazzmen (Jazz Selection/Vogue) CD

Tracks 1-6 / Sidney Bechet Blue Note Jazzmen (Vol.3) - Sidney Bechet & His Blue Note Jazzmen (Blue Note) 10" 1953

Tracks 7-12 / Sidney Bechet Blue Note Jazzmen (Vol.4) - Sidney Bechet & His Hot Six LP (Blue Note) 10" 1951

Tracks 13-14 / Bechet-Spanier Big Four Singles (Hot Record Society) 1940 - also re-issued on a Jazz Selection single.

It was great these sessions were included in the box set, and in such good sound. Excluding the two Hot Record Society tracks all the Blue Note sides were issued (in a different running order) on the Blue Note CD

A terrific CD that includes two Jazz Selection compilation LPs full of singles that were all originally issued on Aladdin Records. So good!

The last track is credited as previously unissued, however, I confirmed that it is identical to the track on his Artist House disc that has never been on CD officially.

Frank Strozier (as) + Booker Little (tp) + Wynton Kelly (p) + Paul Chambers (b) + Jimmy Cobb (b) .... sharp toned Frank Strozier (as) is exceptionally well suited with the floating delivery of Booker Little (tp) .... a recording which still rises in my esteem even after all these years .... excellent sounding Koch CD release ....

Charle Rouse (ts) + Harold Land (ts) + Joe Gordon (tp) + Thelonious Monk (p) + John Ore (b) + Billy Higgins (dr) .... the enforcement by Harold Land and Joe Gordon adds refreshing colour and tension to the sound of the Thelonious Monk Quartet .... btw hard to go wrong with Harold Land at that time .... simply outstanding music ....

Freddie Hubbard (tp) + Hank Mobley (ts) + McCoy Tyner (p) + Paul Chambers (b) + Philly Joe Jones (dr) .... (LP Contemporary King Record Japan LAX 3140) 1977 .... recorded "live" March 3rd, 4th and 5th , 1961 @ The Manne Hole Hollywood .... Richie Kamuca (ts) + Conte Candoli (tp) + Russ Freeman (p) + Chuck Berghofer (b) + Shelly Manne (dr) .... mistaken by some as an early 60 `s West Coast Jazz revival in contrary this is a tight band caught during its peak .... lot to rave about here like the fluent tenorsax solo work by Richie Kamuca, the velvety trumpet tone of Conte Candoli and some miraculous pianism by Russ Freeman .... and don`t forget ace bassman Chuck Berghofer (of Nancy Sinatra "These Boots Are Made For Walking" bassline fame) .... never properly reissued on CD ....

Miles Davis (tp) + Wayne Shorter (ts) + Herbie Hancock (p) + Ron Carter (b) + Tony Williams (dr) ..... the Miles Davis Quintet still firmly grounded in high-quality modal structures .... this a perfect soundtrack for a sunny Sunday morning ....
