I had it digitally and was planning on getting the vinyl and took a chance on this. Happy that I did. And I normally hate colored vinyl, but this sounds great.

Sonny Rollins - Our Man In Jazz (1962) Classic Records LSPCD-2612 gold CD with 20-bit mastering Recorded live, July 27 – 30, '62 at The Village Gate, NYC Sonny Rollins - tenor sax Don Cherry - cornet Bob Cranshaw - bass Billy Higgins - drums The saxophone colossus and the pocket-prophet of the avant garde, nudging each other ever on and upwards. Rollins has lots to say just months after his three year sabbatical, and between Cranshaw's furious bass notes and Higgins's driving beat, the tension on this date is high. Two Rollins numbers and a Kern/Mercer standard get fleshed-out like never before, and this version of "Doxy" is the bee's knees.
Portrait of Sonny Criss - Sonny Criss (Prestige) CD with Sonny Criss (alto sax), Walter Davis (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Alan Dawson (drums) A delightful Quartet session from 1967. "Of Bird's children, the alto saxophonists who grew up in Charlie Parker's image, none had more passion than Sonny Criss" (from the sleeve notes)
(LP Riverside Victor Japan "Riverside Original Recording Series" SMJ-6074) 1975 .... recorded October 23rd + 24th, 1962 @ Plaza Sound Studios, New York City .... Wayne Shorter (ts) + Freddie Hubbard (tp) + Curtis Fuller (tb) + Cedar Walton (p) + Reggie Workman (b) + Art Blakey (dr) .... although probably not as heralded as his Blue Note recordings, these early 60`s Art Blakey platters for Riverside are pure gold and this one probably the jewel in the crown .... worth the ticket of entry just for the compelling version of "Caravan" .... fabulous frontline (Freddie Hubbard !!) and Cedar Walton is in superb form throughout .... outstanding music ....
(CD Blue Note Universal Japan "Blue Note The Masterworks" UCCQ-5007 SHM-CD) 2014 .... recorded December 27, 1962 @ Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs .... Freddie Hubbard (tp) + Wayne Shorter (ts)+ Cedar Walton (p) + Reginald Workman (b) + Philly Joe Jones (dr) .... recorded shortly after Art Blakey`s "Caravan" session, this is more or less the same band with Philly Joe Jones on drums (and sans Curtis Fuller) .... again Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard keep the sparks flying and one has to wonder why this excellent date was not released before 1976 ....
Evolution - John Lewis (Atlantic) CD Bar some barely audible humming along occasionally this is a very impressive solo piano album, recorded 1999. *Evolution was also issued with The Wonderful World Of Jazz by John Lewis on Collectables Jazz Classics (2CD)

Donald Byrd – The Creeper Label: Blue Note – LT-1096 Series: Blue Note Classic – Released: 1981 Alto Saxophone – Sonny Red Baritone Saxophone – Pepper Adams Bass – Miroslav Vitous Drums – Mickey Roker Piano – Chick Corea Trumpet – Donald Byrd Neglected Byrd album, recorded in '67 but released in '81 and only reissued once on CD in 2017. Really, a criminally neglected set of tunes that include 2 compositions by Corea, 3 by Byrd, one from LeGrand & Gimbel and the title track which was composed by Sylvester Kyner. I streamed this on YT but wouldn't hesitate to pick up a reissue say by Tone Poet or any other offical BN reissue program. Too bad they don't do domestic CD reissues anymore. This was apparently Byrd's last totally acoustic setting. Fans of the Byrd/Adams pairing should check this out.
It's not entirely true it has only been on cd once, as it was part of the Byrd/Adams Blue Note Mosaic set, and then in 2012 by EMI Japan. Was it released in 2017 or is that just a typo? Great album!
I'm going by what Discogs has listed, so there's definitely a margin of error there - and I mixed up the Scorpio LP - - with the Japanese CD listing, so 2012 it is! Forgot about the Mosaic set, but that's become like hen's teeth at this point.
Discogs shows the 2017 to be an LP reissue. That slipped past me, but I don't collect new vinyl for the most part so no suprise.
thereof (CD Atlantic Rhino Records US Press 0081227946401) 2016 .... recorded May 4th + 5th and December 2nd, 1959 .... John Coltrane`s debut for Atlantic .... recorded within weeks of his co-operation with Miles Davis on "Kind Of Blue" this is a genre classic in its own right .... btw great sounding mono version on offer here ...
