NOW! - SONNY STITT (Impulse!) CD Bass – Al Lucas Drums – Osie Johnson Piano – Hank Jones Tenor Saxophone / Alto Saxophone – Sonny Stitt Recorded 1963 followed by Salt and Pepper - Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves (Impulse!) CD Bass – Milt Hinton Drums – Osie Johnson Piano – Hank Jones Tenor Saxophone – Paul Gonsalves, Sonny Stitt Recorded 1963 but LP not issued until 1964 I'm not sure if any of the two Sonny Stitt albums were ever issued as stand alone CD releases but they were issued back to back in 2011 on 1CD via Impulse! 2-on1/twofer series. This was a great purchase! I'm more impressed with these two fine albums than I expected to be. The sound quality is spot on too.

DON RENDELL - IAN CARR QUINTET / SHADES OF BLUE / COLUMBIA / 1965 / JAZZMAN STEREO REISSUE OF 33SX 1733 LP
Hans, have you seen the japanese mini LP CD replicas (of all 5 albums) on CDJapan? They were mastered from the original master tapes and therefore are the first fully licensed CD versions of those wonderful albums.
Kenny Dorham – Trompeta Toccata Bass – Richard Davis Drums – Albert Heath Piano – Tommy Flanagan Tenor Saxophone – Joe Henderson Trumpet – Kenny Dorham Recorded on September 14, 1964. I'm listening via RVG CD. Nice, long excursions through 3 Dorham compositions and one from Henderson. Very much in that vein of mid-60s Blue Note albums as well, which is to say it toes the line between bop and soul jazz without tilting over into full blown SJ territory. There's vamps, but also some modal sounds to keep it balanced. Highly recommended for any Dorham fan. His tone on this album is remarkable.
A psrt should be seen also here (you are invited): All Things West Coast Jazz And The Surrounding Scene* best W.

WITHOUT A NET - THE WAYNE SHORTER QUARTET (Blue Note) CD Bass – John Patitucci Drums – Brian Blade Piano – Danilo Perez Soprano Saxophone – Wayne Shorter Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Shorter CD mastered by Mark Wilder and issued in 2013. All tracks on this 77 minute + album were recorded live in Europe in 2011 except the lengthy 23 minute 'Pegasus' which was recorded live at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2012. I like this album although at times sections of it can be a challenging listen. It is also a record that succeeded in splitting reviewers opinions.
