(CD Criss Cross Jazz Dutch Press Criss-1007 CD) 2001 .... recorded April 7th, 1983 @ Studio 44 Monster Netherlands .... Warne Marsh (ts) + Lou Levy (p) + Jesper Lundgaard (b) + James Martin (dr) .... late career gem by Warne Marsh uplifted by an excellent rhythm section (Lou Levy !!) .... although he cut a number of great platters this recording stand alone would have been quite an achievement .... highly recommended ....

Portland's dry season usually extends into October, as well, but the rain also has come early for us. We've already hit our average precip for September.

Well, on a wet morning like this, what can you do but play some Bill Evans? NP Alone (Again).

I got to see Jacky and Casandra perform this program in San Francisco when it was released. Second row from stage, Casandra in a regal gown.

It's a post-fermented tea. Imagine Assam, stored for years in a humid climate, fermenting with molds and micro-organisms. You can buy twenty year old pu-erh from centuries old tea-trees. It's like the chinese version of very expensive wine or scotch. But it hasn't got to be that old and expensive.

Recorded October 2, 1961. All original compositions supplied by Walton, Hubbard, Fuller & Shorter. It's a smoking album. This band was so tight, and really mastered hard bop. It's perfect, really.

Can anyone recommend some recordings of trumpeter Barbara Donald, other than her work w Sonny Simmons? Some wicked chops on her!

I tend to drink my pu-ehr in the cooler/winter months and along with oolong, my favorite teas. A tea specialist had a friend who could test such things evaluate the microbes in a sample of very old pu-ehr (much older than 20 YO) and there were microbes in the tea that were thought to no longer exist!

No jazz at the moment. I've been revisiting some early Alejandro Escovedo albums I haven't played in a while.

LONESOME BOULEVARD - GERRY MULLIGAN (Verve ORIGINALS) CD

Gerry Mulligan (baritone sax), Bill Charlap (piano), Dean Johnson (bass), Richie De Rosa (drums).
Recorded 1989 & originally issued on an A&M CD. The Verve Originals edition is housed in a triple gate-fold digipak.

A rich and smooth sounding later day Gerry Mulligan album.

Holy vibrato! Bechet really doesn't play without it. Good, important music but the continual vibrato wears me out a bit.

I find his vibrato very annoying, that's why I never listen to this set or any other Bechet recording.

Yeah, basically it's on every sustained note. Great solos otherwise.
