Joe Henderson – In 'N Out Post Bop, Modal Year:1964 Bass – Richard Davis (2) Drums – Elvin Jones Piano – McCoy Tyner Tenor Saxophone – Joe Henderson Trumpet – Kenny Dorham Recorded April 10, 1964. Listening via CD from the Henderson 5 Classic Album set. Sound is good, playing is - as you all probably know - outstanding.
I just ordered the MOV version of "Mwandishi" yesterday. MOV has been doing a good job with their Jazz titles lately, of course most if not all use a digital step, but they are on par with the Tone Poet "State of Tenor" release which of course turned out great! How is the sound on those ASH titles? I also have the Speakers Corner version of "Crossings" AAA and mastered by Kevin Gray and that one sounds fantastic. That might be my favorite from the trilogy, but it's been a while since I listened to "Mwandishi", so maybe I will be in for a surprise. Always enjoy your pics!

All the tracks can also be found on the following Mercury LPs tracks 1-4 Quincy Jones Explores The Music Of Henry Mancini tracks 5, 7 & 13 Quincy Plays For Pussycats tracks 6, 8, 9, 10 & 14 Plays Hip Hits tracks 11 & 12 Around The World Quincy Jones (big band/orchestra) records have never appealed to me but when I spotted this in the bargains, and not having any other Quincy Jones albums, thought I would take a chance on it. The sound quality is excellent and I'm impressed with all of these cover versions of Jazz standards. They sure have been very tastefully re-worked.
