JAZZ in PARIS | HARD BOP - Various Artists (Universal/Decca) CD
Roger Guerin - Benny Golson - Bobby Timmons | New Jazz Stars
A great 9 track compilation with a playing time of just over 40 minutes and featuring music originally recorded and released in the 50's. The CD was released in 2017 and presented in a cardboard gatefold sleeve. The sound quality very good thanks to co-ordination and mastering by Francois Le Xuan. All sleeve notes are in French.
Tracks 1-4 were recorded by Roger Guerin, Benny Golson with Bobby Timmons. Track 5 is credited to Roger Guerin Quintet
with Roger Guerin (trumpet), Benny Golson (tenor sax), Bobby Timmons (piano), Pierre Michelot (bass), Christian Garros (drums)
All 5 recordings were originally issued on Columbia 10" LP FP1117
The remaining 4 tracks on the CD were recorded in 1953 and originally issued on the Vogue EP EPL 7081 New Jazz Stars credited to ART FARMER, James Cleveland, Anthony Ortega & others including Henri Renaud & Gigi Gryce.
This was also issued on vinyl 10" in this sleeve...
I was well pleased to find out that rare and classic recordings as good as these are still being made available - and on authentic / factory made CDs!
Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Jimmy Heath, Julian Priester, Larry Ridley, Philly Joe Jones – Hub Cap (1961)
(LP Riverside Victor Japan "Riverside Original Recording Series" SMJ-6198) 1977 .... recorded April 29th, 1960 @ The Blackhawk, San Francisco.... Charle Rouse (ts) + Harold Land (ts) + Joe Gordon (tp) + Thelonious Monk (p) + John Ore (b) + Billy Higgins (dr) .... after recently satisfying my Thelonious Monk needs via the superb Jerry Gonzales "Rumba Para Monk" album I`ve decided to listen to the man himself (again) .... this live gig benefits heavily from an enforced frontline with both Harold Land and Joe Gordon instilling additional punch to the sound of the Thelonious Monk Quartet .... btw what more to say about Harold Land in the late 50`s/early 60`s .... outstanding music in beautiful aka Victor Japan vinyl sound ....
Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves - Salt And Pepper
Hank Mobley, Grant Green, Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones, Wynton Kelly – Workout (1961)
As well as my modest RSD Black Friday haul yesterday, I've also been collecting some jazz titles over the past month or so . . .
From top: DMM, BN80, Analogue Productions, Tone Poet, Music Matters Jazz . . .

Tina Brooks - The Waiting Game
CONCEPTION - Various Artists (Prestige|OJC / Limited Edition Series) CD
A great compilation. The only negative I can think of is the tapes were put through "NONoise reprocessing by Sonic Solutions" before releasing the disc.
The first six tracks on this CD were originally issued on the 1951 Prestige 10" LP
THE NEW SOUNDS - LEE KONITZ featuring Miles Davis (Prestige) 10" LP
HAUNTED HEART - CHARLIE HADEN QUARTET WEST (Verve/Decca/Universal) CD
Recorded in France (1990) and mixed in California. Original CD issued on Gitanes
the album also features the voices of:
Jo Stafford singing Haunted Heart in December 1947,
Jeri Southern singing Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye and playing piano in March 1954,
Billie Holiday singing Deep Song in February 1947.
Just hearing this fine album for the first time and much to my surprise I am really liking what I hear!
