LIVE AT BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC - WORLD SAXOPHONE QUARTET (Black Saint) CD Recorded Live December 6 & 7, 1985 at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn, New York. Remastered CD issued 2012. ALICE COLTRANE / PTAH THE EL DAOUD / IMPULSE / 1970 / US FIRST STEREO PRESSING AS-9196 LP Alice Coltrane's third album and her first with horns on the majority of the tracks. Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter and Rashied Ali - it doesn't get any better than this. The album has a dark tone but is - at least to my ears - very accessible. Both the long and the "shorter" (still clocking in at around 7-8 minutes) tracks build up nicely and feel somehow majestic. I don't usually rate albums in numbers, but this is a 10 out of 10. I read that the original tapes of this album were (as were many others) destroyed in the Universal vault fire in 2008, so unless good tape copies were made before then (and still exist), this album will probably never be reissued as what we would consider an audiophile version. I've listened to the Labson 90's remaster on CD and it sounds quite good (one of his better efforts), so this is probably the sole alternative to vintage vinyl I guess.
This pressing is one of my recent purchases. A wonderful sounding record and, of course, a true jazz classic.

This is a nice record which is basically full of easy listening laid back Jazz music - it carries just about the right kind of vibe for a first listen on a Sunday morning.

MEXICAN GREEN - THE TUBBY HAYES QUARTET (Fontana JAZZ) - Remastered 2019 CD edition Bass – Ron Mathewson Drums – Tony Levin Piano – Mike Pyne Tenor Saxophone & Flute – Tubby Hayes Recorded in London, 1967. Originally released on LP in 1968. The newly remastered 11 track CD edition sounds very good and the music is as fresh and interesting as ever. It includes 4 previously unissued tracks - three different takes of Dear Johnny B. (one with a false start) and take 4 of track 6 - A Dedication To Joy. It's all well worth a checking out! * This disc is included in the 13 CD boxset TUBBY HAYES - THE COMPLETE FONTANA ALBUMS 1961-1969
