CLIFFORD JORDAN | IN THE WORLD | STRATA_EAST | RECORDED 1969 | RELEASED 1972 | US FIRST STEREO PRESSING SES_1972_1 The first title in the "Dolphy Series", produced by Clifford Jordan, starts with a slow and heavy track strongly reminiscent of a funeral theme. The other tracks, while not really resonating with optimism, feel less black and tarry, especially since they're played at a faster pace. To this day I'm not sure if I prefer this album to Jordan's "Glass Bead Games", though right at this time I don't feel like listening to double LPs on a single day, so "In The World" should rank first in this duel for now. It's a nice start to a series which includes album from artists such as Charles Brackeen, Cecil Payne and Pharoah Sanders. All of these titles should be available on CD and LP, most of them on Pure Pleasure (except "In The World, which has been reissued in LP in Japan).
Good observation! We actually did for 15 years until he passed. However, we had a different turntable set up in those days.
I keep saying I am generally not a live album guy but I seem to be getting into more and more of them. I like these guys and will have to check this out.
Was listening to the 2LP John Dentz Reunion Band this morning- great sound and performances. The German pressing is top-notch.
FRANK WRIGHT | ONE FOR JOHN | BYG ACTUEL | RECORDED 1969 | RELEASED 1970 | FIRST FRENCH STEREO PRESSING ACTUEL_36 529_336 LP Classic Free Jazz album by Frank Wright. Recorded with the same personnel (and around the same time) as on "Church Number Nine", but this one is noticeably less bluesy and more in the post-Coltrane tradition.
