These were issued as they were a part of the Pye Nixa / Jazz Today series. That's why it has the UK cover. The other Vocalion modern jazz CDs licensed from Decca sound good and are worth seeking out. I do not hear the distortion on this CD issue although I don't doubt that it's there.

Over the past week I have been listening to a disc a day from this terrific box set and the very high standard is maintained throughout. Now onto disc 8 and that further confirms what a remarkable release this is.
