Diggin' the Jerry Reed BGO release:

Top notch release again from BGO. Those familiar with the earlier Merle Haggard releases, this also comes
with a cardboard slipcase which is a nice touch.
Mastering was done once again by Andrew Thompson, who seems to handle these products with a lot of love and care.
Only one flaw which scared me a little bit, was removing the actual discs from the trays, felt like I was gonna snap the
    discs in half.
Great liner notes as usual from BGO, another top one!
Love these guys for bringing back original albums previously unavailable on CD.

I hope they continue to release these. I'm still waiting to get "Both Barrels" on CD.

Is there a sessionography included in the liner notes?

Contains the original liner notes, and lists all producers, engineers, musicians etc for each album.
    Liner notes are pretty decent.

A true “one-off”, RCA put Jerry’s albums out at mid-price in the UK so I was able to pick them up as they were released without too much financial stress. My favourites were (and are):

    Lord Mr Ford
    The Uptown Poker Club

although all are worthy of your time. Along with the uptempo numbers I also enjoy Jerry’s smooth vocal delivery of the more underrated ballads such as Rainbow Ride.

By the way, I know the thread is about Jerry’s solo albums but I must mention the Old Dogs project with Waylon, Bobby Bare, Mel Tillis and Shel Silverstein. It’s right up Jerry street and he (and they) doesn’t disappoint.

Reed is also similar to Miller in that they both developed their signature comedic styles several years into their recording careers. Both artists' early recordings are much more conventional.

I saw Reed live back in the '90s and he put on a great show. He autographed my copy of his Smell the Flowers LP, which I still have.

Reminds me of a phone call I made c.1973 (I was 16) to WILZ, a local class B 5KW AM station that had maybe, 100 listeners, to ask the newly hired DJ (from WLCY Tampa, the "hot" AM station) Howard Hewes (real name: Joel Busch) to play that song. We talked for a minute or two - he was on the air - and told me: "I'll break that record before I'll play it!". I LOL'd

I said "Wow, you hate it that much?" "Yes. Ask for something else. Anything else."

In the end, I had to make a different request, I think it was for "No More Mr. Nice Guy" IIRC. I never asked him to play it again ...

Phenomenal guitar player for sure, and a hot session picker on many other artists' records. I especially like some of his earlier material like "Talk About the Good Times", "A Thing Called Love", "Smell the Flowers", and "If It Comes To That." Much as I like "Amos Moses", it seemed to recast him as primarily a novelty artist, at least as far as his hit singles go. The exceptions are some of his deep cuts (Both Barrels is a fine album) and the 2 albums he made with Chet Atkins. Some artists take themselves too seriously, but sometimes I feel that Jerry didn't take himself seriously enough.

Absolutely! You don't see Chet Atkins drool over another artist as much as he did with Jerry.
    What does that tell ya?

Has anyone compared the masterings of Ko-Ko Joe and When You're Hot, You're Hot on this 4fer to the original 2fer cd that is still available?

Just trying to determine if it's an upgrade or not because if it is I will have to purchase the new BGO version.

    Thanks!

I always liked Jerry Reed but never got around to collecting his music. I bought "The Essential Jerry Reed" back in 1995 & loved it.
I was really impressed when I heard his version of "A Thing Called Love"

& I loved having "Lord, Mr. Ford" in my collection.
