    Hi everyone,
Happy Fourth! This thread is about sharing John Denver's music, memories, favorite videos, times you've met him, etc. I started this thread because I really love John Denver's music, and from what I can tell he's not discussed that often on this forum, so anyway. I have several favorites by John Denver, one being the orchestral masterpiece "Calypso," I find it hard to believe he wrote such a beautiful piece of music by himself and with basically three chords. So, just post your favorite memories, songs, etc by Mr. Deutschendorf (John's real last name,) as I said above.
    Thank you,
    Ryan

funny quick story...a friend and I were hanging out in the front of the Bitter End with Paul Stookey...out of the club comes John Denver in an all white suit as he passes us he says...NO AUTOGRAPHS and climbs into the waiting limo and drive off...we all just looked at each other and laughed hysterically...a Kodak moment for sure...
I've been a fan of John's since day one...

If you want to have some fun. Go see Ted Vigil's tribute to John when he comes out to your neck of the woods. He is quite amazing. Here he is now.

I always felt a bit weird as a kid in the 70s liking his music, because no one else I knew did (except grownups). Glad I'm not alone. :)

I'm not from the 70s, from the born in the early 2000s. I never met John and was born 7 years after his death.

He sounded very strict, but he was probably in a hurry and tired.

Was talking about Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman with some friends the other day and I suggested John Denver would be a pretty interesting “next choice” for that type film. The others agreed. Sonny Bono was another whose story we thought might sell some popcorn...

Almost thought about starting a thread on it here!

That would be a great idea for a biographical film!

He was great, and i always loved his voice.

I think he played up that "nature boy/hick" schtick a bit too heavily and it hid what a good singer and guitarist he was. And he wrote some terrific songs.

There's something about Calypso that really does evoke certain moments on a boat on the ocean, but then I think he wrote it right there on the bow of the Calypso, Cousteau's ship. His songs about Alaska also mean a lot to me, and of course I grew up with his music on radio, tv, and on records (had Farewell Andromeda, Back Home Again and Greatest Hits... almost every song is top drawer on those). So sad how he died; unable to reach back and switch fuel tanks on his aircraft while in the air.

This is what you want. Take Me Home: The John Denver Story (TV Movie 2000) - IMDb Chad Lowe plays Denver. I found it...forgettable. But his story is not really unique from other baby boomer muscians.

There is a really good documentary which covers his life well and with dignity for what he did. The one I see is called Country Boy from PBS but I think there is another one called The Best Voice a Song Ever Had.
