Wow. This was unexpected. Coming at a time when I could desperately use some good news I never expected news this good!
Excellent news - looking forward to it whatever it is! Got a lot of early live Joni on bootlegs, definitely hoping for some previously unreleased tracks, studio session materials/outtakes, etc.
Not even a Joni fan, but the reactions from those who love her, gives me thrills. Very very happy for you, especially when it appears archive material have been close to zero.
If there will be a reissue of the early LPs (heck, all of her albums!)...all the AAA albums up into the 80s...good deal. If they are digital, then I would hope they are 24/192 transfers.
What a kind, thoughtful comment! With the release of Shine on vinyl recently, I do admit that my hopes were lifted to maybe see a reissue of Night Ride Home on vinyl (still going for $90+ on the used marketplace), along with first-time pressings of Turbulent Indigo, Taming the Tiger, Both Sides Now and Travelogue. Joni's gorgeous artwork deserves the full glory of the larger format!
I don't know all of her albums by any stretch, but the albums I have I love dearly. I would definitely take the opportunity to explore her more when/if some of these archives come out.
You’re not wrong! Imagine the frustration over Dylan and Neil fans complaining about unreleased albums, complete tour box sets and full album session collections while Joni has canceled every archival release for 25 years lol
And in case anyone is worrying that this is some kind of Harper Lee situation, Joni has her wits about her and has improved tremendously over the last five years. She’s even quit smoking, got back into painting, and has even hosted jam sessions with Brandi Carlile, Hozier, Chaka Khan, Harry Styles, and Herbie Hancock, where shes sung and played piano for her friends. I think when James Taylor said she was returning to her instrument that’s what he meant, playing for friends and family. I don’t have any expectations of a new studio album but who knows...
Hoping for the demo of "The Circle Game" with rock instrumentation and/or a live version of "Ladies of the Canyon"
I’m betting the swingin’ sixties version of Circle Game with Siegel Schwall will be there, but I don’t believe she ever performed “Ladies of the Canyon” (the song) live.
I've always wondered why. It has a difficult tuning, the same as Sisotowbell Lane, but she performed Sisotowbell Lane
On the internet alone, you can find thousands of dedicated Joni fans who already own all her official releases (and some unofficial ones, too). They would pay for any archive material they could get.
i would be excited to hear the entirety of the first 5 albums with rock instrumentation. could be something truly amazing.
It’s interesting but to me doesn’t quite work. Crosby made a good decision to keep her first album sparse.
