The last bonus track, On The Outside, is such a gorgeous pop song. Nice to have two versions back to back to end the CD.

I would put the kinks collection up against the Stones any day of the week.

"Time Will Tell" - played at random for me today. What a great track, killer guitar riff, relentless, driving beat, attitude, edgy vocal. Seems as if this track went unreleased until recently, anyone know the story there, is that true? I'm amazed at how many great songs they had just lying around.

I'm hooked on these deluxe editions! Listening to Arthur today. Just ordered Face To Face, and Village Green.

I wasn't planning on picking up Everybody's In Showbiz, but I found a copy at a local record shop so I bought it. It's the Deluxe Edition, and I like the bonus live disc more than the original live lp.

No one knows for sure, in fact I’m not sure any member of the group had ever even commented on that song! One theory is that Rays vocals go off key near the end; however they had so many other first class outtakes that’s not necessarily the reason.

Agree 100% I was always baffled by all the rubbish on the live album (Mr. Wonderful, Banana Boat, etc.) taking up all the space. Love the bonus tracks -- and while I can't see it as a legit candidate for a two-sided live album from that run of shows, the version of "Have A Cuppa Tea" is about as close to heaven as I get down here. I used to yell for it at concerts, yes because it sounded funny at a rock show, but in my heart I really meant it.

I just saw on BBC Breakfast that some lost video tape footage of The Kinks performing "Days" on The Basil Brush Show has been found (along with some lost Morecombe & Wise).

My first Kinks album was One For The Road on vinyl in about 1982. I absolutely loved it. I knew I liked the Kinks, but I was about 13 or 14 and didn't know enough to make informed decisions. When I was at the record store i was trying to decide between an anthology and the live album. Some guy I didn't know suggested I get the live album because he said "the kinks get more energy into the live versions" and that's what sold me on it.
    Never regretted getting it.
Over the years I slowly added to my kinks albums, and my appreciation of the band grew kind of slowly.
When the sacd's came out I ended up getting them all. I was very happy with them, except for the fact that several were labelled as surround sound, but actually weren't. Shortly after this I bought all of the earlier albums reissues.
In and along all that time my favourite albums have been
    Village Green
    Muswell Hillbillies
    One For The Road
    Low Budget
Give The People What They Want
but that isn't to say that the others are poor in any way.

The Kinks are one of my favorite bands of all time, to the point of going to see Sunny Afternoon, the musical, when I visited London a couple of years ago (I'm from Argentina). One killer song after another!!
    Anyone seen it?

Oh, I still appreciate them all. But there are definitely a few that are, shall we say, an acquired taste. But any Ray is worthwhile if you are a fan.

There are moments on both UK Jive and Phobia that are quite good; but there are also other moments that are lesser in quality. The DID YA 5-song EP that came out in-between those 2 albums is excellent though, so you should get that.

It was booted for awhile before it became official. I forget when I got a copy but it was probably early 2000s. Holly Golightly recorded this along with "Tell Me Now So I Know" in 2003 so she must have had them too. It's probably just coincidence, but this song has a similar riff:
