"Shangri-La" instrumental/backing tracks. Not sure about the alt (really different) "Drivin" mix.

 

These "ommisions"... I haven't done a the A/B to the original, but clearly at the start they've restored some bars of music that were edited from the original. Perhaps that's what we're primarily hearing?

Also, I must admit I was hoping for less saturation on the chorus, that there would be enough elements in the stems to make it a little less harsh. Any thoughts on why this remains so loud/compressed?

 

It was probably recorded that way and remains on the multitrack.

 

..which would be unfortunate. But not going to put too much thought into a you tube video. Waiting for the real tbing.

 

I also figured the extended intro was just a loop of the guitar part on its own, as we well know the Kinks weren’t ones to use up tape unless absolutely necessary.

I’m sure this has been answered already but it’s a long thread. Is there any reason to buy the 2CD version when I already own the 2011 2CD release, which also appears to have more tracks? Thanks.

 

Probably not if you already have the Dave Davies Hidden Treasures cd.

Past experiences with orders not being supplied, and then taking forever for refunds. I’m surprised you hadn’t heard.

Oh, what a beauty!

 

It does look lovely - but here we go again with a CD sized booklet for the track by track breakdown. How strange! I hate these sorts of photos though- makes me more keen to buy it

 

I agree - I'm much more tempted after seeing those photos! But so far we can't even pre-order it in Australia from a local retailer, including Amazon! I'm currently happy with my 2 CD and Hidden Treasures cd, but I'll be closely following the feedback here once it's released.

It comes out while I'm on holiday in Nashville. I'm doing some record shopping while I'm there, so I'm not planning on picking it up right away... but we'll see.
